Latest GRC-12 TSO Product

I received two and they were different.  One worked, the other was too small.  One was 2.9mm.  The other was 2.48mm.

Both had 3 on the end of the handle.  Definitely a QC issue.

    If they are all as different as the two in this picture, then it doesn't look like a tolerance issue to me. That looks like two different size drivers.

3mm Hex Ball Driver EKLIND p/n # 92630 mix-up reports

We received reports that some Ball Drivers marked “3” on the top of the handle are in fact molded with mismatched driver ball tips for a smaller tool. Note that the blades are the same cross section – only the ball tip is machined differently.

We are working with EKLIND, the US Manufacturer of this tool, to establish an inspection process for our in-house inventory as well as new, incoming inventory of this Ball Driver. The goal is to be able to ship the correct replacements to affected customers as quickly as possible - aiming for this week.

We are also opening packaged GRC-12 Connector kits in our warehouse and inspecting them to ensure the correct Ball Driver is included. This means a brief interruption of shipping new orders to be sure they’re correct.

EKLIND apologizes profusely, along with ourselves, for this mix up. We thank our customers for their understanding.

Received mine today and I'm very pleased with them. Despite the additional £28 UK import duty which is not fault of TSO I may add.
First shot at connecting rails require a second go with a straight edge to get things bang on (that's with leaving a small gap between rail ends) but they are so much easier, relatively speaking (based on having used the Festool and Makita connectors), to tighten up its no big deal. A good amount of shaking the rails around did nothing to change alignment so I'm happy to trust them once set... which is a good feeling to have in any tool

Any updates on when these will ship?

I know you said you were 'aiming' for next week, which was ~3 weeks ago, and I understand these things often take longer then expected. I also understand it's not a show stopper in that it does not stop anyone from using the guide rail connectors. But an update as to what's happening would be nice.

Great point Hans and one that very often falls by the wayside, so while we all chat with each other with our “handles”, we all have formal names that govern more significant information.

True, while it is possible to send an email to a FOG member their actual email address is never revealed in the process. As I said it's not a show-stopper for me, I have a couple 3mm hex wrenches. But the dedicated ball driver would be nice to keep with the rails in the transport bag.

How are you guys liking these? Are the alignments dead accurate everytime or are you still needing to use a straight edge for total accuracy?

The connectors are great, no complaints and they are easy to use and self-aligning works well.

The ball driver was a good idea but unfortunately the item TSO got from Elkind was incorrectly labeled as a 3mm when it was not. TSO was quick to send replacements but for me the second ball driver was no better than the first. I don't really care the guide rail connectors is what I was buying. I use my own 3mm hex wrench, also from Elkind, and it works just fine.

Long story short the guide rail connectors are worth the money and work well.

Do not 'undertighten' the screws (meaning: think that it's still tightened to the rail while in reality it's already loose from the rail as it's already unscrewed as far as it can be) or you'll end up with them getting stuck inside the connector.
Please don't ask how I know.

Does TSO ever offer any free shipping deals? 
I'd really like to order the connectors, but it seems silly to spend $13 on shipping.  That's the cheapest option.
Woodcraft Seattle doesn't carry it and the other vendors have similar high pricing on shipping.

I believe they have before, but not for some time. I agree though, a bunch of products my vendors do not stock that I can’t justify the shipping on. Hopefully for Black Friday?? Doubt it though.

Same applies to other dealers.They'll stock what you ask for.

We can offer lower shipping costs on some items via a combination of UPS or FedEx with "last mile" delivery handled by the USPS Post Office. But that earned us some customer complaints about delivery SERVICE and tracking information. Thus ended the lower shipping cost option.
