Here’s a rocking chair I recently completed.  This is an original design I first drew on paper last year.  Materials are walnut, plywood, ambrosia maple, olive wood and EcoPoxy.  Much of the chair, including the carved seat bottom and backrest is shaped on my CNC.  Festools used are the Kapex, Carvex, RO125, ETS125, RO90, TS75 and the OF1400.  Fun project!

That is a very cool looking chair!
Very exotic setting from my vantage point. What is your location?

Tell us about the back...

It's gorgeous!  I love the design (obviously), the choice of materials and the plywood accents really look great!  Well done!!

Thanks for the kind words!

The back was a good lesson in woodworking perseverance.  The original plan for the seat bottom/backrest was to have the 2 halves of the live edge slab (olive wood) joined together with only the walnut crosspieces.  As I was cutting the dados in the olive wood it started to crumble and a couple large chunks broke off.  This particular slab turned out to be very unstable.  My choices were 1) Make firewood and start over or 2) Figure out a way to stabilize the slab.  I decided to try encasing the entire piece in EcoPoxy.  Worked great!
