I bought this level only the other day through recommendation on this forum. Only had it a couple of days so not really had much chance to use it but here is a quick review.

I took these pics this morning I used a ceiling prop to stick the laser to, the swivel bracket that the laser has built in has a very strong rare earth magnet on it so it sticks well to anything metal, it even has a v groove in it so it centres on the pole perfectly. The silver part you can see is a touch switch that toggles through 1 horizontal and vertical 2 vertical 3 horizontal. You can also lock the pendulum for casting a sloped laser line and for transporting the laser.

The laser looks very bright and its about 2 to 3 mm wide which isn't thin but isn't the fattest laser line I have seen , its supposed to be accurate within 0.3mm per metre which is pretty good and it has a range of up to 250m with a detector or 20m without. The unit also swivels right around so when stored the lenses are protected.

This picture doesn't really show how good the line is in real life. To give you an idea of the spread of the laser here its attached to a pole at about 5ft high and about 10ft from the wall, the horizontal line stretches right along the walls to within about 12" from 90 degrees from the side of the laser and its about the same with the vertical beam too, so not bad. I think if you were say doing a suspended ceiling and you set it up in one corner you wouldn't have to move it much.

As I say I have only just got this laser if I find anything more out about it I will add to this review.

Thank you!

Good Idea using your props I got  two same as yours.  Never thought of using my Props for my laser Im sure the B1 Bosch bracket has a V so im going to try it on my props aswell. I was going to buy the bosch pole but if it works well on my props I might aswell use them instead.

Just a bit concerned about the thickness of the line, 2 to 3 mm is quite thick.  Is the competition any thinner ?

Im not sure if the Leica is thinner I will have a look I know you can make it less bright which in turn makes it little thinner but its not for that its for when you use a detector.  You switch it onto that mode.  The thing is even if it was 5 mm (im just saying) thick it doesnt mater you just use either the top of the laser ot the bottom of the laser that what i do any way.

That's kind of the way I look at it. I use the Stabila LaserBob Level and don't have any problems using an edge.

It's the same with the KAPEX lasers, You should use the inside edge of the laser beam to indicate the outside edge of the blade.

Its nothing to worry about Im used to working with lasers you just mark the centre of the line, the PLS180 did have a thinner line but only slightly.

Yeah I have had them props years for tacking ceilings not used them for ages as one of the pair slips, the little pin that drops into the holes in the pole has worn out so it slips. I only thought about using a pole after researching all these lasers and a few have poles as accesories I do have a tripod somewhere but the poles are better.

I have found you can stick the laser to plastered corners where the metal bead is but it slips down the wall so its not good.

These warnings all over on every thread are very , very, very annoying. I have never seen anything like this on  any of the ten forums I have been on over the years. Company owned or not!

Jeez! Give it a rest!

Yeah I have tried that one as well and like you said it doesnt work very well  funny you say that though.

Tripod is still needed thought with VERY tall ceilings or no ceilings lol  Yeah poles are better defiantly with floor joist  as a tripod as you walk vibrates a lot more than a pole.

I often us a door instead to put my laser on to eliminate to the laser bouncing up an down every time you walk past it very annoying.

Thanks Chris.Looks good.I'd be interested to know if it would survive a drop unscathed!  [unsure].Seriously though the guy on the vid mentioned dropping it and it being Ok.So far my laser has dropped 2m and been kicked round a bathroom by a clumsy plumber ::) The only thing I would miss on the Stabila is 2 vertical lines.....

How you getting on with the Stabila ?  I am planning to get one & wondered what your thoughts on it are now.

Cheers, Woodguy.

Hi ,

You should take a look at the Bosch GLL2-80 or the GLL3-80 they give you a 360 degree line in both axis and two vertical lines in the case of the GLL3-80. I have had the GLL2-80 for only about two weeks but it seems to be a good quality tool. It comes with a 3 year warranty and good accuracy specs, also a hard case. I also got the receiver and would highly recommend it for situations with high light as in out doors. I was able to shoot elevations over my complete yard which is 1.5 acres from one location on a tripod.
There are lots of reviews online if you do a search.

Thanks Gerry

That does indeed look like a good level but mine is ordered already (lax200).  I just seen that one a couple of days after it was ordered or i might have thought again.  Everyone seems happy with the Stabila though.

My mate is buying the level for me.  I have a Lecia Rugby 100 which is a big site level which i don't use anymore & he wanted to buy it.  Told him to get the Stabila & he can have it  [big grin]

Cheers, Woodguy.

The Bosch GLL-3 and receiver look really good.Unavalable in France yet I asked  the only UK supplier I've found about shipping to France but no response!!

The GLL3 was not out yet when I bought mine or I would have probably gone with it.

  That was unfortunate Gerry.

Bosch seem to be one step ahead with these 360 degree levels.

Hi,

I am very happy with the GLL2 so not a big issue with not getting the GLL3 but if it was available I would have given it a close look.

My son uses his lazer nearly every day.  360? beam.  Of course he uses it for leveling for footing trenches, septic systems, floors (the earthen base for the floors) and so on.  his only problem with lazers is that they tend to grow wings if not watched very closely, or anchored down with a very loud alarm attached.  They have even found their way out of the front seat of his truck, leaving a great hole of broken glass behind.  Aside from that little problem, he swears by them.  Me, I have never used one, but have seen them used for all sorts of things, indoors and out.
