Leigh D4R Pro + Isoloc Templates ... Severely Trumps VS600 ?

I've been "on the fence" about a dovetail jig for a while ... the green koolaide in my system makes me keep going back to look at the VS 600, but common sense says it's very limited.

Now I've been looking at Leigh's Isoloc templates - I'd never seen these before:

So it looks like the D4R Pro is a healthy option when you consider the templates you can add.

Funny thing, I like the idea of the VS600 because it's designed to simplify common dovetail and joint patterns - perfect for simple drawers, etc. Only problem in that is I have no desire for common dovetail and joint patterns!

Anyway, the D4R Pro does have a little green on it  [smile]

Looking at the accessories and assuming the router in use will be an OF1010 or OF1400 ... the vac accessory looks redundant ??

Hi Kev

I am sure that the Festool dovetailing jig is aimed at the busy professional who just needs to do some really smart drawers with the minimum of fuss and, probably, no mess. I have not used it or seen it demonstrated.

I have had the Leigh D4 for years and I really like the ability to change the pattern of the dovetails. I am workshop based and have the time to play around getting the finger templates setup each time. My OF1400 is brilliant with the Leigh jig.

Given the option, I'd go for the Leigh jig over the Festool one - there's just so many more options available on the Leigh.

Having said that, I don't own either (nor have I ever used either) so my opinion might not be that valid...
