Let us all ban +1

I find ' +1' posts very frustrating, particularly as in most cases they offer no additional comments or discussion to the topic. In fact I would even say they are time wasters.

[ban] +1

Yes before someone else says it, I am probably guilty!

I disagree that it wastes time, I find it speeds up the reading of a post. I'd rather see a "+1" from a poster, rather than a long drawn out re-explination of what someone else just wrote which in all totals to "yes I agree" better yet said "+1".

So -1, lol.

I don't think they are time wasters.

No point spouting out the same thing if its already been said by some one and you agree with them and want to tell them you agree but also to reinforce their statement somewhat by +1ing them.

I suppose you could say " I agree with so and so " and leave at that.... Might as well do a +1 quicker easier and if people are reading the topic they will quickly see others agree with one glance with out the need to read the other comments saying they agree with that particular person/comment.

So I think +1 for the +1

+1

I just finished writing my post to find out a new reply had been posted.  If you had only posted a little sooner I hadn't of needed to write my comment I could have just +1ed you

So to keep a tally is that 3 or maybe 4 plus 1's and 1 minus 1. Can you be a plus 1 before you are a minus 1. Or maybe I am just wasting time by typing this. My head hurts now. LOL.

Well, I use +1 as shorthand for 'I support the based on my experience as well. '

Writing this message on my iPhone has taken about 60s which is way too long to do while standing in traffic lights. +1 takes about 3s.

Personally I don't like using them, but understand when others use them to say that they agree with a post.  But if they are used just to bump up post counts then they are nothing more than spam in my mind.

I too am not a big fan of the +1 but I do understand why they are used. If we could have a function similar to the "like" function on facebook that would flag the poster and the OP that someone supported their post without it hitting all our unread lists I think that would provide the function of the +1 without sending all of us to look at a new post only to see a +1. We could even call it the +1 function and each post could have a little tally in the corner of how many if any have +1'd it.

And to Peter's point the new +1 function would not be included in a person's post count.

Kevin

I seldom use the +1, but I understand it to mean "I agree with the previous poster and support their position."  I do like to see people expressing their support or opinion, so I vote +1 for the +1

I guess that's a +2?

I think the +1 is ok when someone answers a question and every one agrees . when people express different opinions It gets confusing  when people +1  and you don't know which post they are referring to.

I would like a like or thank button system but rather have it a agree or disagree button. when someone posts a great answer it will be followed by the names of everyone who agreed in one box/colour and those who disagreed in a different box or colour

Good thing andyman responded with the +1. I had know idea what the title was referring to.

I totally disagree. This quickly gives us added data. A way to quickly agree with methods described above. When people chime in with that, you know that what precedes is worth reading into.

I thought there was a 'like' functionality at some point (?), but unfortunately that is not supported by Tapatalk, which I use almost exclusively to read and post short comments like this on FOG.

I mainly logon from a computer only if I'm doing a writeup and posting multiple pictures.

Also wish there was a better way to add emoticons from Tapatalk then memorizing the bracket markup... [sad]

Thank you all for participating in this discussion. I certainly enjoyed the humour in some responses; for example those of Andyman, Paul and Tom.  [smile]

Recently I saw a dormant topic had reappeared in my 'Unread List'. As I had followed this topic with great interest in the past, I opened it with anticipation to find that all that could be added was -
[size=36pt] +1  [eek]  [eek] [eek] [eek] [eek] [eek]
[size=14pt]
Some participants such as Reiska discussed options such as 'Like' functions. This could have some merit for further consideration.

Certainly it appears from most responses that +1 is seen as valuable. Consequently I can only urge members to value it's use, and not as some suggested to improve a members post count.

And finally -
