Well yeah, I had a 'very good' teacher, who bore a striking resemblance to this one:

Since one can't escape loaning out tools completely, I've taken a page from Sheldon's Roomate Agreement on the 'Big Bang Theory' show and drafted my own Loaner Agreement where paragraph 27, section 3 clearly stipulates that "borrower must post a paypal deposit in the amount of "cost of tool plus 20%" before absconding with said loaner". In addition the addendum on page 345 indicates that all persons filling out the "Friend Application" must prove that they have an arsenal of tools that are of equal or better quality than me and be willing to lend them out in order for their 'friend status' to remain active.
No need to get upset; just clear rules put down in writing ahead of time. That may explain why I don't have too many friends and am instead relegated to spending time online with complete strangers who just happen to own the same router brand that I do...
