Matthew,

Has anyone checked with FestoolUSA to determine if they have any objections to use by FOG as part of FOG's logo or banner?  I'm thinking about copyright / trademark issues.  I recall several years ago that BMW objected to use of BMW by the BMW Car Club of America, forcing them to change BMWCCA (no space) to BMW CCA (space) out of BMW's concern and fear that BMWCCA would damage BMW's trademark rights.  The Club also  added a disclaimer to its publications stating that the club had no affiliation with BMW or its North American subsidiary.

Plus take a good look at Andrew's logos and the homepage of the Festool USA site, with the CT extractor, very similar look. I don't know how Festool feels about these logos but it probably should be looked into.

Good Morning,
Scott, thanks for the series -- nine logos!  That's great!

To those wondering about copyright/trademark issues: from the beginning of the re-design effort, I have been communicating with Christian Oltzscher and Shane Holland about the proposed changes.  However, there's a chance they haven't seen the latest entries, so I wrote to them this morning asking if they would review the proposed logos.

Before the changes become official, I would of course make sure Festool sees everything.

Thanks,
Matthew

Everyone,
Please re-submit your votes!

I had to rearrange the poll entries to make them more organized.  I made a single vote in the case of a logo series, rather than having individual votes for each part of the series.  Unfortunately, there is no way to edit the entries without changing the whole structure.

Sorry about that.  Think of it as a way to review all the great choices.

Thanks,
Matthew

Matthew,

There should be 10 total, I sent the first one for the series (with the c12) a couple of days ago. If you want other tools also just shout.

Thanks,
Scott

OK, got it.  There are now 10 logos showing in the poll for your series.  That's why I wanted to create a separate poll -- to organize all the entries!
It's up to you if you want to submit other logos for the series.

A reminder to everyone: please re-submit your votes!

Thanks,
Matthew

Matthew,

Here are updated images for the of1400 and ro150 based on the comments about the vacuum hose. Also, please update the domino image with the one below (the previous one had a 75% transparency unlike the rest of the series) and the ct33 image with this one of the ct22.

And just for fun, one with the kapex set.

Andrew,
I just uploaded your edited images, as well as your new one showing the Kapex.  There are now 7 logos in your series.  You can see them live in the test forum.  Make sure everything looks the way you intend, and feel free to contribute others to the series.

The one thing I would ask is that you fix the capitalization:
"discussions and multimedia zone for festool tools" should be "Discussions and multimedia zone for Festool tools" in your final contribution.

Thanks again for your work in this project!

Hmmm.  I kind of like it all in lower case - seems like a graphic artist's touch, IMO.

I agree - I attended a course last week on marketing - apparently, using all lower case is the 'latest trend' in marketing and logo design!!!

For "latest trend", I read "fad" or "craze".

As you might have guessed, I'm not a fan of using all lower case letters - to my mind it looks amateurish, and either gives the impression that it was designed by a kid who hadn't yet been taught how to use capital letters, or by someone who was too lazy to use them.

This is not an attack on Andrew or his logo, just on the "latest craze".

Forrest (with a capital "F")  :P

i agree with forrest and jrb that most all-lowercase stuff looks juvenile, ignorant, or both.  we are not all e.e. cummings.

that said, in the particular case of the andrew logo design, i think it's nicely balanced with the rest of the design.  imo, stet.

:P, because i couldn't find a smiley with tongue in cheek.

To Scott,
I added your 11th logo to the series for voting!  Check the first post of this discussion and you'll see it there.  Thanks again for your work.  I'll upload it to the test forum soon so poeple can see it in action.

Regarding the capitalization: OK, I was going on the assumption that it was an oversight, but perhaps Andrew was using lower case on purpose.  If so, and it was meant as a design choice, never mind my request to capitalize it.  People should be able to submit their logos according to their design ideas, and then members can vote on it.

Thanks,
Matthew

Good Morning,
Just a note -- Scott W's series of 11 logos is now uploaded to the test forum.

This is the one called "Scott W Series" in the poll -- Check it out!

I've been thinking about the capitalization issue, and I have to say I can live with the first word in the statement being lower case, but I'm going to insist that "Festool" be capitalized, since that is simply the correct word.

Matthew

All,

Thanks for the positive feedback and helpful suggestions.

Matthew,

Here are the logos with FESTOOL in all capital letters. Like my previous submission with lower case letters, this is simply a design decision to go with all capitals. I think it helps emphasize the FESTOOL OWNERS GROUP text above. You have a good point that this should be capitalized as it is the company name, so I took that one step farther so it will match the way the name is shown on the tools.

Also, added one for the HL850 so all the basic tool types should be covered. Let me know if there are any missing.

Andrew--

I took Matt's comment about capitalization to refer to an initial cap in Festool, as he spelled it, not all caps.

I hope that's what he meant, because ALL CAPS isn't an improvement.

Yes, my preference is for this:
Discussion and multimedia zone for Festool tools

Or, if we insist on lower case...
discussion and multimedia zone for Festool tools
