Matthew,
I did vote, but I think all of the entrees are good entries. I also went up to see what we are working with now, and like it better. Here's why. In the design of the new logos, I think we have strayed a bit too far from what we can or should do. The logos created and posted are good but, in my estimation, trespass on what Festool can and should do. They are a great bunch of guys but the art of the company is still theirs...and not for us to tinker with.
Your present banner is proper in size and statement. Let's keep it. There is another reason to keep it...this forum is STRONG as it is and doesnt need a new banner. Sorry. Just my two cents.

So long as we have their permission to use the images, I don't see a problem.

I'd think Festool would be impressed with the quality of the logos, which might incline them to allow the image use.

Or perhaps Shane will hire Andrew... ;)

The Scott series is OK, but the tool pics don't show up as well as in the Andrew series, both because of their size and the dark background color.

I took Matt's comment about capitalization to refer to an initial cap in Festool, as he spelled it, not all caps.

I hope that's what he meant, because ALL CAPS isn't an improvement.

Yes, my preference is for this:
Discussion and multimedia zone for Festool tools

Or, if we insist on lower case...
discussion and multimedia zone for Festool tools

Matthew
I have a slight preference for the uppercase first letter in "Discussion".  Or perhaps:

Discussion and Multimedia Zone for Festool Tools

Yes, that is my stronger preference as well!  In fact, that's the way I display it in the header of the current forum.  But I'm open to new interpretations.

Andrew,
Let me know if those last posted logos are the ones you want to have as your "official" entries so I can update the images that appear at the top of this discussion.
Do you want to fix the uppercase thing?
Thanks,
Matthew

Matthew,

I updated my last post to include all logos (now 9 total) with Festool capitalized.
My preference is to keep the rest of the text in lower case to balance with the all capital FESTOOL OWNER'S GROUP text.

Dan,

I added one for the upcoming MFT3.

Best,
Andrew

Good Morning,
Just to let everyone know, we are within a week of making a final decision on the new logo (or logo series) for the forum.  If anyone has new ones to submit, please do it soon!

Andrew,
Your latest logos (9 of them) now appear in the first post in this discussion.  Also, the series is now showing live in the test forum!
Check it out.

Matthew, the "check it out" link in your latest post does not work for me.  It asks me to log in again, and when I try, it does not recognize my log in which works on the main FOG site (for which I am very thankful for your work and investment making it possible!).

I think the scott w 4 is the most creative and represent what we do where the andrew seris is nice but a name and apic.  where the scott adds style to the design.

Hi,

The more I look at the logos, the more I like the cleaner looking ones.  Also is it just me or do the ones with rotating pics seem to take longer loading pages?

Matthew is there an alternating  shading  difference on posts?  I can't tell for sure.

Thanks, Scott.  That worked  - to see one design.

Dave,

I'm not sure if you know, but you can see them all on the first page of this thread.
The test site has been rotating them for a while.
Matt changes them from time to time.

I don't think that the rotating images would cause the pages to take longer to load.  The way it works, it's just calling a random image instead of a static one.  The page "looks" into a folder with several images and picks one randomly, instead of looking into a folder and picking just one.

There is no alternating shade on posts at the moment.  The way the forum code is created, if I shade alternating posts it also shades columns on the main page and post index pages.  To show you what I mean, I'll add alternating shading today and then people can decide if they like it.  Keep checking the test site.

Good Morning,
Actually, I looked at the code, and in fact there is alternating shading in the test forum.  However, the alternate color is a very, very slight off-white.

On a daily basis, I work with five monitors on three different computers.  I found that FOG colors and textures vary between the monitors even though four of them are almost exactly the same ViewSonic monitor (the other is a Sony laptop).

In general that's a tough issue because that means what each person perceives depends on the video card and monitor.  For example, this computer has two ViewSonic VP201b's running off of the same card.  I can barely perceive the shading on one monitor and not at all on the other!  And, the look is slightly different when using Firefox versus IE7!!!

It's one of the "joys" of developing user interfaces.  And that's using an internet browser as a user interface.  Traditional Windows interfaces are much tougher!

Regards,

Dan.

We have a winner!

After voting on all the logo entries, Andrew Ledbetter's series is the winner.  The logos that appear in his series will soon become the image visitors see when entering and navigating the Festool Owners Group.  Congratulations to Andrew, and thank you very much for your effort on this.

Congratulations to all the others who submitted artwork for the new logo.  We had several strong candidates.

I'll be sending out the prizes to the three winners in the next few days.

Although the logo poll is now closed, I'm delaying implementation of the new forum for a little bit, as I work to tweak a few more details.  Also, I'll be working with Andrew to slightly alter his logo design so the images flow more smoothly with the welcome text.  We'll be handling those details off-line, but you'll see the results in the test forum as we go along.

Thanks everyone for contributing ideas and opinions to the logo effort.  This discussion is further proof that an open approach to forum management and design can be successful.
