Looking at the Precisio CS 50 set, any advice?

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone knows if the Precisio is due for an update? There is a cash back voucher offer available until June this year for the Precisio range and I wondered if this was a way helping move old stock.

I am thinking of buying the CS 50 and noticed that the set isn't available any more in 110V only 240v. I don't want to buy the stand alone model as I would like to have the extensions and sliding table etc to swap between my CMS. To buy them separately would be much more expensive and just don't want to spend that kind of money this week only to discover that a new model or update is out later in the year.

I have considered getting another 110v CMS with insert for my ts55 as I have TSC cordless version and probably won't use it as much. That would mean buying all the extensions separately again and not sure how that set up would compare with the CS 50.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Festool never gives information about this until the product is ready to hit the market.

My guess is ..... don't count on it. Safe bet. It takes decades before Festool updates these saws.

Thanks Alex,

I think the the Precisio has been around for at least ten years so was wondering if the voucher offer might be a sign. I was wondering if anyone on here has experience of the C50...I suppose I'm looking for a little reassurance before I push the buy it now button! The voltage issue is a bit of an issue as all my set up is 110v but its something I could live with.

We have the cs70..... it's just alright wouldn't buy it again. There is a lot of flex in the fence and it moves about quite a bit when pushing the work piece through the cut.

[member=56331]joinercp[/member] That is worrying to hear about the fence. I work mainly with MDF and Ply so hopefully it won't move around with light stock being pushed through. I have just ordered the CS50 set as the attachments can be used with my CMS and will make a big difference there. I really hope that the fence doesn't become an issue. At the moment I just have a Bosch GTS 10J and it has served me well but is pretty limited to what it can do and the cheap stock angle attachment has all the usual issues. I tried adding an Incra fence to it but couldn't get it to fit.

Thanks for reply.

Hi Jonathan,

I have no clue about whether an update to the cs50 is due but I do have a cs50 and am very happy with it. The last update changed the rail used for attaching accessories and Festool have not made any changes to this on other tools. So that certainly would not require an update.

I have the LS fence and that locks on the front and back and is very stable and does not move at all. I would not recommend using it with only the standard fence as this is locked in one location at can flex a bit.

Stability of the table saw should be seen in the light of it being portable. Large sheets are more difficult to use and also where a lot of force is needed when feeding, the table might flex a bit on its legs. Then again, feeding should not need a lot of force and using a rip blade has worked wonders for me.

I use it primarily for smaller sheet work, when already broken down and for smaller furnature work ripping and cross cutting both soft and hard woods. For that I have found it well up to the task.

[member=5644]hoedma[/member] Thank you, that's reassuring to hear that the LS fence works well as it should be included in the full set version. Its small sheet work that I am looking to use it for as I break down sheets with the plunge saw in another area of my studio. Its' great to hear that is well up to that task. Is the dust extraction good with the CTL? The Bosch I have been using kicks out dust everywhere despite me hooking it up to my Vacs.

In general dust collection is good, although I do not have much experience with other table saws.

I have an older CTL Midi with the lower suction spec and as a result I mainly use the lower suction connection and not so much the overhead suction. For the Midi using both does not add that much; what it gains on top, it loses down below. Where this hurts most is when I rip less material than the width of the saw. I do not have a planner or thicknesser so I use the cs50 for scrapping a millimeter of the side of pieces. Without strong overhead suction, that creates a bit of a mess. But for normal ripping and cross cutting the collection is good.

Do keep in mind, I am not a professional. I make furnature for myself and family members and the odd job around my house and theirs. But generally, any inaccuracies in the machines I use are small compared to my own mistakes, incorrect measurements and other failings  [laughing] [laughing]

[member=5644]hoedma[/member] That's great, I'm hoping it will make a big difference to the way my shop works as whenever I use the Bosch I spend even more time cleaning up. Thank you.

I don't have so much problems with the standard WA fence in most circumstances, you really have to push it hard to make it flex and with normal use that doesn't happen. I suits my use fine for 99% of the work.

Only gripe I have with it is it can lift upwards a bit, which is a problem if you have cut a 45 degree angle on sheet material and want to cut the other side, then if you put the slope against the fence, the corner can creep under it, making the cut inaccurate.
