Looking for advice on the Bosch 1250DEVS/GEX150 Turbo

Hi guys,

Just after some words of wisdom on the Bosch 1250DEVS, GEX150 Turbo, or what ever it's called in your part of the world. From the reviews I've been reading, a few people here either own one or have used one.

I've seen one quickly in a shop a few weeks ago and the dust port looked bigger than my other Bosch sanders (that take the Festool 27mm hose) but not big enough to use the 36mm hose. What hoses are you guys using or what adapters did you need?

I bought the Bosch 1250DEVS about a month ago, and it came with two adapters. One of them worked perfectly with the 27mm hose. I can take some pictures later today if that would be helpful.

I have been using the bosh turbo for nearly 10 years, but never tried the rotex. It has been for cleaning the switch for aggressive/normal sanding a few times, it stopped working again but as I am using it mostly in aggressive mode I let it be. It has been for repairing a few times, but nothing major – seals, brushes , cable and last time for CAPACITOR/filter. The sander works very well, don’t have complain there, but the dust collection is not good compared to festool ets ec 150. I am using mostly festool sanding papers and the bosh doesn’t’  have the ‘right holes’ for them, but even with the right sanding paper it still doesn’t collect the dust very well.  I don’t know if the rotex is better but as soon as the bosh stop working I will be replacing it with the rotex. I've owned the DEV for two years,it's great in aggressive mode not so much in random mode. I just use it for fast removal

I've already got the GEX125/150 sander. 125mm to 150mm as it includes both bads and 4mm orbit. I'm needing something a bit more agressive though with a few upcoming projects. Unfortunately the rotex is out of the question, in Australia it is $1050 while the Bosch is $449. Is the dust collection as good? Of course not. But with a $601 saving I can get a room air filter, a few good masks and have enough change for a carton of beer too  [big grin]

The main thing I needed to know was can I hook it up to my festool hoses with a minimal fuss. Now that I know I can, the Makita is off the list and the Bosch will be bought soon.

Plus with it being Bosch, I can use all the 150mm discs I already have for my other sander. This just adds to the savings.

I've only had my Bosch 1250 for about a month but I really like it.  I also loaned it to the guy who was refinishing my floors.  He was trying to round the corner of a step to eliminate bite marks from my wife's dogs.  He really like it too.  Had difficulty controlling it in turbo mode.  I used it today and yesterday to remove paint on my house.  With 40 grit in turbo mode it chews through it well.  A few passes with 80 grit in random orbit mode and I am ready for priming.

I have also sanded a few woodworking things including 11 stair treads.  Works great.  It is controllable with one hand, at least by me.  I have a little DeWalt 5 inch and still use it occasionally but the Bosch is my favorite.  It gets the sanding done quicker, and the vibration isn't bad.  I haven't used a Festool sander but I think the dust pickup on the Bosch is good unless part of the pad is not on the work.

I use the Bosch 5 meter hose which is 36mm, I believe, with it.  One of the adapters it came with works well.  I was a bit surprised a Bosch sander needed an adapter to work with a Bosch hose but it isn't a big deal.  I use Rigid shop vacs.  The shop one pulls through a dust deputy. 

I could have used the smaller pad of the Festool 90 today but got my with my Multimaster.  No dust pickup but I was outside.  The clapboards I am refinishing are around 8 large windows so there are short sections of them the Bosch is too big for.

I have had the Bosch 1250 for about five years. i bought it after reading a review in FWW that rated the dual mode sanders Makita, Bosch, Festool. The Makita was ranked first but had a number of bad reviews concerning reliability so I went with the Bosch. Since then I have used it on anything that you can sand for hours on end, including floors and down to 16 grit. It gets dropped at least twice a day. When this one dies I'll get another one. I have used it with Festool, Rigid, and Fein vacs, usually with Abranet abrasives.
