Looking for advise

I have a client interested in a custom stool for his wive's shower
so she can sit while showering. I have some 8/4 Cypress in my
inventory and would like to use it for this project. Anybody have
any reason to try and talk me out of using it? I have seen some tubs
and shower floors online so I am thinking It will work. I am not planning
to use ane any finish other than epoxying the ends that will rest on the shower floor. I am also thinking of making some cypress dominoes for
the joints or I can check if my local Festool dealers has the sipo in stock.
Any input is appreciated.

I am surprised that they want a wooden stool. There are many special plastic stools available for this.

Haven't worked with cypress, but at least using heat treated European Aspen and European Alder both used for saunas here will be destroyed (rot, cracking & discoloration) unless regularly taken care of with reapplication of mineral oil at least annually and made sure that no feet are in direct contact with standing water on the floor.

I would put plastic or rubber foot pads on the feet to lift them off direct floor/puddle contact - else you will end up getting discoloring in the wood even though you've epoxied the end grain once the water starts raising into the wood.

Thanks for the replies.  I didn't ask any questions as to why he wanted this.  He is interested in something custom for his wife.  I will
try and come up with some rubber feet of some sort though.

There should be no problems using Cypress wood in the shower.  I am under the impression that it is one of the most water resistant woods out there (maybe lignum vitae is the most?)  

I have been designing a shower bench for a project I will soon be working on, so I have been giving quite a bit of though to this same subject.  

I will be using teak, but similar precaution about the feet has been a concern of mine... so I have decided on no feet!

Not sure which one I am going to go with yet, but they should be good for a couple hundred pounds.

RE: sitting in the shower - I'm not even that old and I wish I had a seat in my shower.  I also think ladies like something to put there feet up on and shave their legs.

Don't have to be old to be disabled, happens all the time to a lot of good people through no fault of their own..  My hats of to her caretaker.

Yes, but you probably don't shave your legs.

I feel better about the cypress and I am glad I kept it in the inventory.

I can't think of a shower area without a bench in it - it's really handy to store all the odd bottles of shampoo on it and you can sit down to cool down after a hot sauna and enjoy a beer inside instead of going out into the -20C & a metre of snow... Also very handy to have a place to sit when giving your heals a pedicure/sanding and rince the dust away under running water from the shower... and to store kids toys... and well you get the idea. Beats sitting on the floor on a hangover day too  [poke]

My sister is a property manager south of Brisbane (Australia) she was showing a house to two women, on entering the laundry, one apparently said to the other "Hey look at this huge laundry and there's a drain in the floor. This will be great for washing down nana".
