Morning guys,

My brother in law to be is coming to the UK from USA in the next 6-7 weeks.

Now i am looking to purchase latest Grex P650LX 23g pin gun. Can any of you advise a U.S. Online retailer with the lowest price for one of these? I am looking initially to ship to Florida, so I'm not to worried about shipping cost.

While we on a subject of U.S. Purchasing, can anyone tell me what are wood river knuckle joint block planes are like? Quality, usability, etc? Or is it worth buying a Stanley sweetheart plane instead?

Regards

EV.

I bought Grex from TOOLNUT.  They go on sale off and on, but even when NOT on sale, ToolNut's pricing is in line and no tax to Florida (where I am as well).  Free shipping too if I'm not mistaken.

Unfortunately for we Floridians, Amazon used to have fastest shipping, but they recently opened a warehouse in Orlando, and as a result we now have to pay sales tax on all items purchased from Amazon. Sigh.....  (All good things come to an end.) [sad]  As a result, out of state retailers are now the best bet.

Cheers,

Frank

I have purchased several from The Fastener Company

They usually have good deals on bundles with assorted pins and free shipping.  I have also purchased parts needed for rebuilds as needed.

The woodriver knuckle block planes have a very nice over all finish.  In my opinion the are a little wide.  It could be that im use to the Lie Neilsen 60, and the ln60 fits in my hand very well and thats what Im used to.  One thing about the older Stanley knuckle caps is that theres so much pressure on the casting it cracks under the blade.  Not sure if this is an issue with the Woodriver or not.  I would spend the extra money and buy Lie Neilsen or Veritas.

I see that the P650 not L is available from Rutlands at £170,  with todays exchange rate that makes them cheaper than USA !!

Have a look

Hi Frank.

I had a look on TOOLNUT site and can se that P650LX is at $308 but can't see if thats including shipping or if there is a separate charge for it. I've done stateside google shopping search and most results come up with $308 some are more.

Thank you for your advice.

Hi Phred,

I had a look on their site to but I can't see them listing a P650LX only P650 and P650L. I do however like the fact that they throw in some pins with it as a part of the deal.

I will have to send them an email to confirm availability for the P650LX thou.

I thought about potential strain to and have read some of the reviews on their (Woodriver)  bench planes, people seem to complain about the quality for the money you pay. Lie Nielsen is a must of cause but I wanted to know what Woodriver planes are like  before I commit to Lie Nielsen or Veritas. Another option is Stanley Sweetheart Premium block plane. they seem cheap in comparison to the high end brands but once again it would be nice to hear from those that already own one and see what their oppinion is like. I currently own a modern 60 1/6 stanley basic block plane but find it a little, well unrefined to be honest. It lacks that quality feel.

Thank you for the heads up on the stress point of Woodriver and older Stanleys as I never knew that.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for the heads up on on Rutlands deal. I was aware of it but as always try to buy latest from the brand. I currently own a Stanley Bostich 23g Pinner but find it very easy to fire it accidentally due to the nature of the safety release being very easy to get hold of as it is so large, frankly larger than trigger it self. Only the other day I was shooting 30mm or 1 ¼ pins and have managed to shoot on number of occasions accidentally while picking up the gun of the bench. I there fore fancy a gun that has no feature like this and P650LX is the ticket. I already Own a Grex 1850GB 18g brad gun And I love it. it is also effaces in FESTOOL GREEN to  [big grin] My 5 year old Bostich therefore is up for sale.

The P650LX has only recently been placed on the market and I believe it hasn't even been a month yet. Have a look at this video and you will se why I want this particular gun.

Same here, Nail Gun Depot is pretty good, I've ordered a lot from Toolnut but the last order took 7 business days for a interface pad. Too long when a job is waiting.

Price are same at Nail Gun Depot as those at ToolNut and it says ready for preorder, so I'm assuming they haven't got the stock yet.

EV,

If you look at the top of the ToolNut pages, you will see FREE SHIPPING for Purchases over $40.  The Grex certainly qualifies!!

Cheers,

Frank

The ToolNut page also shows as out of stock. Grex USA says the status on the 650LX is available March 2015. I imagine that possibly no one has actual stock yet.

Before you order you may want to make sure the pinner is actually available.
