Yeah, in reading all the Domino, Sawstop, Dowelmax threads on woodworking forums, it brings back a childhood memory of an elemetary schoolyard argument: "My dad is stronger than your dad!"  Now, being a dad, I hope I never have to try and back my sons claims if, indeed, he choses to get dragged into that comparrison.  The fact that some people have to rail on others joy, is a fact of life.  The only thing that makes this group of people happier than passionately and eloquently bashing the tool and it's owners, (no matter how flowery the vocabulary,) is when there is a post that says, "I can't calibrate my ....."  They flock to it like ants to a picnic with the hopes of seeing some catatastrophe, or chaos the tool has created.  The same group clings to the hope that there will be a sawstop failure, or a dowelmax misalignment...a domino breakage **gasp.**  The same group has CNN as their homepage for the same reasons.

If buying the tool brings you joy, it brings me joy.  I love to look at the projects and the jigs and inginuity that goes into getting the most out of a tool that is obviously fun to use.

Now don't get me wrong.  I love to read the hundreds of passionate posts on why they didn't, won't, or can't buy a certain tool.  I think they are funny and are alot like watching Jerry Springer or Dr. Phil.

Heated debate is great, but please let's keep it civil.  Remember, the majority of people in this forum want a peaceful, friendly environment.

From the beginning, my goal has been to create a forum that is a positive force (perhaps an exception in the Internet community).  Some thoughts on this...

You gain respect when you are informative, creative, and lively without insulting anyone.

When this forum succeeds, and you are one of the positive ones, you get to say you are truly part of the success.

Also, keep in mind that this forum has an "ignore" feature.  If someone sets you to "ignore," you become invisible to that member.  You don't want that, do you?

As an administrator, I try to stand back and let freedom reign.  I want to keep moderation to an absolute minimum.  But for that to be a reality, members must do their part to create the kind of forum that makes us all proud.  Use your freedom of expression as a positive force!

But I am also a realist...

If you are irritated about a particular member's postings, consider using the PM system to notify me before writing an angry response.  Also, please use the "Report to moderator" feature, which allows you to send me a message about a specific post, with your comments.  You also have the option of setting a member to "ignore," which makes that member's posts invisible to you.

It's pretty true of all groups that there will be both bashing and gushing. I know I've done both.

It's important, in the face of all the positive and negative hype, to post real problems as well as real praise. To this end I have posted what I felt was a serious domino design flaw in another thread. I hope Festool addresses the issue. On the plus side, the tool is already indespensible in my toolroom. It squares my work up, aligns things properly, and saves me countless hours on every project, and I'm just a one-man woodworking shop. It's a great machine, and within the space of a few more jobs will have paid for itself.

I have but one question. If Festools are so over priced and underperformed, Why are so many of us that actually own them so happy? ;D
I have a competitor in the audio business here. They offer installs for a dollar. My answer to that is "The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the cheap price is forgotten." I say we offer a race, we use the Domino, the competition uses a M&T jig or even a multi router. Once the winner finishes, the looser pays 10 bucks for every minute it takes them to finish after the Domino is done. We'll be rich. ;D
