Love my Kapex!

After reading what seems like countless negative posts about the kapex I thought I would write a positive one.  That is not to say I don't respect everyone else's opinion, I just thought I would include my two cents.
Luckily when I bought mine I got one of the ones with no scraping.  It has not had any problems since the day I bought it.  I love this saw!  Lots of people have asked if it is "worth it", and in my opinion that is 100% relative.  For me and what I do it is definitely worth it.  I don't think it has the same wow factor as say the rotex or the TS55 and TS75 saws do.  I feel the same way about the kapex as I do the routers.  With the rotex and guide rail saws there is nothing like them out there (until the DeWalt and Makita become available).
Like the router, the dust collection is a huge positive for this saw.  It is IMO the best out there.  I also like the forward rail and the forward bevel function.  The lasers were spot on and I love that I can adjust them if I need to.  I like how compact it is since I am usually on a jobsite for no more than one week.  The main reason that for me this saw is worth the money is that I use SCMS's every day and it is how I make my living.  All of the features while individually not that amazing, but added together I feel make an amazing saw.  If I was not a professional I am not sure if I would buy one, although I think probably not.
To those that are considering buying one, I would say think about what you need it for and give it a shot.  Remember that A. if there are any problems festool will stand behind it 100% or B.  if you are not happy within 30 days you can return it.
I am very, very happy with my saw and would not trade it for any other.  Just my 2 cents.

Love mine too.

In addition to the practical advantages I've found, there is also the aesthetic. I simply find more pleasure in using
it than other saws I've tried.

edit: it's also so much quieter!

We were having a little Festool Fest at my house last weekend and the KAPEX stole the show. Mine works flawlessly and I am extremely happy with it.

We had so much fun playing with tools and chatting no one took any pics  ;D

It did happen... honest

You guys should consider yourselves very lucky. I see a post someone just returned another yesterday. I guess statistics say some have to work correctly.

Please post every month or so as I am wondering about the longevity of the unit.

I also have one friend whose says his unit is working great, but I tried it and to me its not satisfactory. If you can not lock in on a 1/2 degree(on his I could not) with little or no friction its no good, but to my buddy the unit is fine. Different perspectives I guess.

Nick,
I think it is a good idea to post in a month or so and I will do so.  Believe me if there are any issues I will say so.  I have also used tools that others thought great while I did not.  I will say that on my saw I have no problem locking in on any angle.  I mostly use my kapex for staircases and those angles change a bit with each tread and riser.  It could be that I got lucky as well.  I will continue to post and let everyone know how the saw holds up.  Thanks for all the replies!

Hey guys,

I have had my Kapex for about 2.5 months now.  The first week was great, and then the dreaded sound started.  I replaced the spring plate after about two weeks and have had it on the machine for two month now.  All I can say is that it has been nothing short of fantastic since I replaced that plate...  The miter can be adjusted very precisely and once locked, it stays exactly where I place it...  The miter adjustment is silky smooth (i.e., table rotation)...  The only big project that I have used it for so far is an 800 sf deck that was anything but easy...  Many angles had to be cut, none of which were an exact 45 or 22.5 degrees...  It worked fantastically on that project and it is still working great today (two months later).  Not so much as a hint of scraping sounds.

I know that $1,300 was a lot of money and there have certainly been some issues with Kapex 1.0 (or is that 1.1 with the new spring plate)...  But, every since that small fix, the saw just rocks...  I still get a kick out of it every time I use it and it always garners a "What is that" when non-festool friends see it...  I am relatively happy with it now and can easily live with the few remaining short-comings...  I imagine that Kapex 2.0 will correct most (if not all) of the remaining issues with Kapex 1.1...  But for being a first attempt by a company that has not done a SCMS before, overall it is a very good first attempt...

Hey Nickao,

I also have no problem locking in on any angle, miter aspect of turntable works fine. Will let you all
know if that changes. I've had the saw for in the neighborhood of a couple of weeks.

Here's my update Nick.  I still have no problems with my saw.

I've had my KAPEX for just over a month. No problems at all.

Matter of fact, I am extremely happy with the saw and would buy it again in a heart beat!!!
