LR 32 Rail

I have a project coming up to build a small pantry and wine rack for a relative's kitchen.  Nothing fancy just some adjustable shelves and some simple wine storage.  I have wanted an LR32 system for a while now and figure this might be a good project to try it out.

I currently connect two rails to break down sheet goods.  My plan was to buy a long rail with holes and then use it to break down sheet goods as well.  I was thinking an FS 2700 with holes.  However, when looking on the Festool USA website I see the longest with rail with holes is an FS 2424 which is not long enough for 8 foot long sheet goods.

Given this my question is should I save the money and go with the FS 1400 rail with holes?  I will have to connect rails for sheet goods still but that not a huge deal for me.  Plus most of the cabinets I build the 1400 will be long enough.  The pantry will be a little over 8 foot but I plan to connect the center boards with dominos for strength.  Doing this I would then just index the adjustable shelves from the top and bottom to cover the entire length.

For some extra context, I am am hobbyist and could use the extra $200 I would save on some other green kit I have been considering.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

In case one holey 1400 covers your current needs with the LR 32: go for it. Effectively you can use it as a standard rail for the rest of your tools, so you could leave the plain ones joined up and use the holey one for situarions were you currently need to break up the two.

Worst case is that you might need more LR32 reach on a later project, then you have the option to either get another holey 1400 (to join up the two), to stay with one 1400 one and move it (using the bit in last hole as index position, ok approach for when you need only a few rows) or get a long one then and resell your short one on ebay (to recover ~80% of the initial price - that ballpark works at least here in germany).

I find two 1400 rails are way easier to transport than one longer one (at least for me) and with makita connectors I have no problem with them not being straight when joined.

I am thinking beyond this one use and that having only the 2424 holey
rail could be awkward on smaller projects. With a pair of 1400 rails you
could join them or use individually depending on the project size. Plus a
1400 rail may be easier to maneuver in tight work spaces.

I decided to go with the 1400 holey rail.  Ordered the rail and the LR32 from Shane and the team at Tool Nut/Festool Products.  Arrives next week.  Will put the new kit to work shortly after it arrives.

I just used one 1400 rail and used the router as a centering pin to move the rail one way or the other to drill more holes.  Worked fine; you can definitely get it within a mm, in which case, who needs the $300 long rail?

As it can also be used as a normal track: the ones that would want a longer track (so they don't have to join shorter ones).

Best would be if the unholey ones cease to be produced and all new rails would be holey.
