LS 130 "Do-it-yourself kit" question

In the market for a LS 130 sander.  I need to sand some complicated profiles so I thought the do-it-yourself kit might be the way to go.  Is this a 'use once' item or does it spring back to original shape so I can reuse on a different profile?  Also for you LS 130 owners,  what extra pads are a good bet?  I see it comes with a 90 degree but they make an 89 degree pad for sanding corners.  I know it depends greatly on my own needs but what extra pads have you bought that you recommend or regret?

The Do-it-Yourself Sanding Pad Kit for LS 130 works by abrading it to the shape you want to sand by using the shape you want to sand. To answer your question directly, it is in the shape of the profile you are sanding and doesn't "spring back.

I use it for round-overs a lot so depending on the radius of the round-over, I use a different radius, concave, 90-degree pad more than the others. When using it that way, you have to be conscious of the fact that you are removing some material from the flats about 40-50 mm from the corner and take care to even that out while sanding the flat. It's a great tool that takes a little getting used to but not much. My assistant, (she had never used a sander before), had it figured out in a couple of minutes with a little coaching.

That's one of them, Jim.

That one is the 6 mm radius pad. There's also a 10 mm radius pad. On the round-over application, you can put the paper on the pad at "different depths", meaning don't try to bury it tight to the inside radius of the pad and achieve different results also. Using that technique and the two pads above, you can handle a lot of rounded-over corners.

There is a whole set of inside, outside, long, and wide pads and a scraper.

Have never used the do it yourself kit (I rarely seem to be on the same profile often enough to warrant the (huge) outlay.)  But the LS 130 is unique.  It's not for everything, but that backwards/forwards movement means that for sanding against an edge etc its excellent.  I don't use it very often but when I do I'm always pleased to have it.
