My new LS 130 Duplex sander arrived with a plug-it power cord that's quite a bit heavier and stiffer in gauge than those for my RO 150 and RO 90 sanders. Is this normal? I wouldn't think the seller would have changed the cord. The thinner more pliable cords on my rotex sanders seem more suited to the lower wattage of the LS 130 than the one supplied.

Neat little sander. I did some paint removal around window sills and rebates tonight and it worked really well. It seems to work better at higher speeds of 5/6 than 2/3 where it was a little jerky.

This is an amazing tool. It can do things that no other sander can do. I have been sanding interior trim with it all week, with speed set at 3. We shot alot of video of it in action on custom profiles all week, which I should be compiling soon if you are interested in seeing some of the things it can do. Congrats, its a great sander.

Thanks Scott, I'd be very interested in seeing the video.

I am also interested in seeing the videos.  Did you happen to make any of the custom profiles?  Really interested in seeing how those work.

I'm surprised about the cord - I thought they were all the same. I'm imagining a stiff cord and don't like the idea ... particularly on a sander where you want ease of movement.

If they were a different gauge I can see how one could be stiffer. Are there any part numbers visible on the leads?

Yes. I was sanding crown and custom base cap with attachments. I use one cord for all sanders, keeping it right on the extractor and just swapping sanders. I've not seen a difference in cords.

Also, swapping out base attachments gets easier as the springs break in. Some guys I talk to find changing attachments difficult. Let me know if you need to see that.

I was told at one point that Festool makes two gauges of cords one with a white inner plug at the plugit end and one with a black one (16GA and 18GA maybe?). The heavier gauge one can be used on devices that take the lighter one but the lighter one can't be used on devices that take the heavier gauge one, there's a little nub on it that prevents it so you don't pull too many amps though a lighter gauge cord.

Yeah, I imagine the seller may be having an issue trying to plug his plug-it into his TS55 about now...  [blink]

Scott - I look forward to seeing your videos, I'm contemplating buying the LS 130 myself.

Thank you all for your replies.

I noticed the heavier cord doesn't have the little nub on it so it can be used on any Festool. The cord has numbers on it but they don't tie up with Festool product numbers. I'm going to phone the seller on Monday and send the cord back for an exchange for the lighter cord. I suppose the sander was one on display and when they placed it back in the systainer for shipment they threw in the wrong cord. No major, I'll just use the cord off my RO 90 in the meantime as it's a lot more flexible anyway especially in tight areas when not connected to the CT26 vacuum.

This sander is my fifth Festool and I'm definitely sliding down the green slope. I want a TS 55 (or it's newer replacement) and a Domino DF 500 next.

Here is a sequence of clips I put together from my work tasks this week. It is in the context of paint prep in a custom new construction project my company is working on currently. I put in a few tips, and info, but this is by no means a comprehensive review of the ls130, just a snapshot to show it in use in practical applications. Also put in a clip of the ets125 performing on square stock.

Feel free to ask questions. This sander is a favorite of mine because tools that are capable of multiple attachments/modes/task types are just fun to work with.

Linear Sanding Custom Trim Profiles in Paint Prep

LS130 is really great and unique. I have had one for quite a few years. I have made two custom profiles. Here is my review which includes some additional info on using it. Wood junkies's review, and also a thread on a custom pad I made.

Scott's videos' should be very helpful to people to  get an idea of using this sander.

@sako - no problem

@seth - just read your review, very well put. I definitely think this is one of the unsung heroes in the sander fleet. I am not aware of another sander (made by any mfr) that can do production style sanding on crown molding and other custom profiles. That used to be the biggest, dustiest time suck in our prep process. Now its actually fun.

ps...did you see the built in cabinet at the end of the vid? I primed it today and cannot wait to sand it monday.
