I'm looking to purchase a couple hundred board feet of quarter sawn white oak.  I'm wondering what folks are paying?  I found a place that lists 8" or less width "high fleck" 5/4 $4.81/bd'.  I haven't checked what shipping would cost.  Does anyone think this price is good?
I'm in northern virginia near dc.  I'm looking for a good place.

Sounds pretty good.  West Penn Hardwoods is $6.50.  There used to be a place near Warrenton, VA that had some pretty good prices when I lived there about 20 years ago.  Don't recall the name.  Bill

Its probably a two hour drive, but Hearne Hardwood in Oxford, PA is my go to source for lumber.  They've got white oak less than 8" for $4.10 a BF.

Rob,

I've been going to Dunlap Woodcrafts in Chantilly for years. They sometimes are more expensive than other sources, but they will take the time to help you find what you need.

I also have bought a lot of material at Northland in Manassas.

By far the best prices I've found were at PJ's Lumber in Goldvein (SE of Warrenton).  It's off the beaten track, but I was amazed at the selection I found at this warehouse in the woods.  I was there to buy a lightly used Dewalt 735 planer and didn't actually buy any lumber, but it's worth a look.  This isn't your ordinary retail operation, but if you buy enough, I think Jay might even deliver to NoVa.  The next time I'm in need of lumber, it will be on my short list.  Call Jay at 540-479-7778.
