I hope I'm in the right spot, so here it is. Add a 8 x 1.25 wing nut to the tip screw, it acts as a locknut to the existing nut and aids in tighten, it' simple, cheap and even works with my monkey paw hands. If it's a repeat, sorry. If not, I hope it helps someone. Brent

OK.  I don't understand.  [blink]  Could you elaborate and/or show us a pic?  [embarassed]

The adjustable screw that I am talking of is the one with the red cap or swivel work piece hold-down. Will try to get a photo soon. Sorry, but work comes first. Two kids in college. [crying]

Sorry about the wait.

The wingnut on the top is what you replace the nut with.

Great idea.  Every time I need to adjust the foot I find myself having to pause, walk to my toolbox, and get a wrench.  It's irritating.

Thanks for the post. Great idea, I'm going to convert the 5 that I use all the time. [big grin]

Wing nuts work well but I replaced mine with clamping knobs...easier on arthritic thumbs.

Could you tell me the source or manufacturer, I like your idea better than mine. B

Lee Valley has them, but I actually buy mine from my local hardware store.  They are cheaper from LV.

Thanks , I know how much fun Uncle  Art can be, with a little nerve damage on the side, makes work so much more fun. .

I love the knob idea, however when I installed Woodpecker 5/16" knobs, because the bottom of the knob has an additional 1/4" wall of plastic before the pad stud threads engage the nut, I had to shorten the length of the pad stud by 1/4" and now the clamp will not clamp thin stock. Just a thought [huh]

another source for Threaded Knobs like Lee Valley is Mc-Master Carr. They have a wide selection usually, although I haven't bought much Metric threaded knobs from them other than some for a set of Thule Rack items that I own.

I like your photography.  The Besseys look very industrial.
