Makita 1016L... hard to resist

I bet Bosch has one in the works, because that is always what people say, my brother and a buddy of mine included.  The arm sliding system is so cool, my old dewalt wasn't too hard to slide, but this saw makes it seem incredibly clunky.

What about any runout or accuracy issues with the Bosch? The weight would not be an issue with me as it will stay in the shop. However, I can't compromise on cut accuracy and repeatability, etc.

I read about that issue somewhere, but it has been dead on.  Return it if you do find this an issue, but it has been perfect.

Hi!

This is a what Bosch has come up with. Pretty cool I think. Don't know about the DC but it looks pretty good with just the dustbag.

I haven't liked any of the Makita compound mitre saws ... some of their tools I like, but not these - don't know the 1016 specifically.

If I was going to try and save money from a KAPEX, I'd go Hitachi ... if not Bosch.

I bought the 10" makita. It was ROUGH! I mean it was as if the blade was wobbly. It barely made it through hardwood.
I brought it back and returned it.
I say buy it as long as you can bring it back.

Viking, the dust collection isn't that great at all.  Don't expect it to have as little dust being thrown up as in this video.  I put a zero clearance insert and tossed the one that came with the saw, the one that comes with it is way too widely spaced, this cut on a lot of the thrown dust.  I also made my own larger dust shroud out of thin plastic, because the dust was flying under the black one it came with.  Even with these easy mods it still throws a bit of dust, don't expect what you see in the video, and don't think it is as good at dust control as the kapex.  But it does help that's for sure.  The saw came slightly off 90 degrees on the miter when I received it, but adjusting that was very easy.  Dust collection is my only complaint, but frankly it is no worse than the my old dewalt saw shown in the video.  Which reminds me, the number one reason I bought the Bosch axial is because you can push it so close to the wall.  I wanted it to fit on the  workbench in my enclosed trailer, and this thing must be the smallest footprint front to back of any saw.  My dewalt only had 3 inches of counter space left to place wood, the Bosch has about 12 inches, such a great design.  I installed a dust tent thingy behind the saw to encapsulate the dust, it was dusty with just the vac hooked to the dust port. If I'm outside or in a larger space the dust doesn't bother me though.
The miter detent override is the biggest help.  I hate it when you want to set the saw just left or right of the detent and it slides into the detent.  This should be on every saw.

I bought an LS1016.  While it had some nice features, the laser was a joke and dust collection was abysmal.   But the biggest problem was runout.   So I took it back and got a second one.   Same runout.   So I took it back and bought a Kapex.   Great dust collection and NO runout.

$349?!?   Hmmm...   I wonder why.

Dan.

If i was Joey that would mean it has a brilliant dust collection  [big grin]
