hi guys newbie here........... i recently purchased lr 32 system to use it with my of  1400. I started setting it up and find out that the collet dose not fit the centering mandrel dose that means i have to buy a now  an 8mm collet (Festool SZ-D 8,0/OF 1400/2000/2200 Clamping Collet for Routers) or is there an other way.

Any guidance will be much appreciated,

regards.

Welcome to the forum!

According to the descriptions that I have just seen in the catalog the centering mandrel is supposed to work with both 1/4" and 8mm collets.  If you don't have an 8mm collet you might want to invest in one any way if you are planning to use the Festool router bits.

You can also purchase a 1/2" to 8mm collet adapter.  They are very inexpensive and also very useful if you dovetails with a router as the 8mm bits are fare more stable than 1/4" shanks.

My LR32 centering mandrel and bits all are 8mm.  My 1010 router came with both 1/4 and 8mm collets.  I've had them for awhile so not sure if these bill of materials has recently changed.

I'll have to check the 1400 as I don't use it with the LR32 kit.

Thanks every one for their replies. my router came with 6mm collet i have ordered an 8mm collet.

thanks again.

Is that UK specific ?

Here they come with three collets. 1/4", 8mm, and 1/2"

For giggles I looked at the UK site and the scope of delivery shows it ships with 1/4" and 1/2" collets.

I find this bizarre .  Why no 8mm shipping in Europe festool ?

Probably the US is the only place that does get an 8mm collet with the 1400.
It doesn't come with one in NZ, only reason I bought one was for the lr32 system, otherwise I don't see the need for it. 1/4" for the really small bits and 1/2" for everything else.

Isn't it odd that the US Who are imperial get an 8mm and the UK who are metric get a 1/4. In the U.K. 1/2 and 1/4 are the most common sizes for router bits so I'd guess that is why. I'd still talk to Festool though as I'd have expected the system to have worked. They are very good at sorting this sort of stuff.
