I have found a new way to use my festools, I am refinishing old kitchen cabinets for my dauhter’s house. i used my rotex, finishing sander, sandpaper, 80,120 grit. the cabinets are solid maple, no knots, they look beautiful. They were not all evenly worn, stained, some had very dark stains. I am wondering how to varnish them. I read about putting a sealer first. the cabinets are for my daughter’s kitchen.

Your first post did not mention stain.

Sanding sealer, then stain, sanding sealer, topcoat.

Cherry is naturally very light brown.

Is this the color you're looking for.

Hi,

I didn’t think you could ever get maple to look like cherry wood, very nice work. Could you tell me name of product you used?

Thank’s Anna

Both were dyed with Trans Tint dyes mixed in denatured alcohol.

The darker one is 6 ounces of Mission Brown and 2 ounces of Black per gallon of DNA. Coats applied were 5 to 7 depending on how the dye was accepted. Below are pine doors in the same room, they match exactly. Some areas did have to be worked with an airbrush. I made and finished these pieces 1100 miles from where they were being installed. I mixed the color from a picture and memory of seeing a piece I had to match twice. Everyone was amazed at the match, couldn't have got it closer if I had the piece right next to me.

The lighter color I don't recall the formula completely, I do recall the base tint was Golden Brown.

Below is a vanity. That is the color of cherry with nothing but clear waterborne finish.

Another picture of the dark vanity.

If you look carefully at the dark vanity towers, bottom corners, mirror side, you may be able to see the switches and receptacles for the vanity. I had them custom made to match the finish.

I'll have the customer take a video of the doors opening. The lights go no in the towers as the door is opened.

Have you used any Sherwood Dye Tom?  It can be mixed same as TransTint and is cheaper per oz.

I did not know of the brand. I'll look into it, thanks.
