Hey Members!

I have been thinking of building a marktplace where people can sell handmade furniture (only). We have Etsy now but in my opinion there are many problems with it. I think i can build a better marktplace for new handcrafted Furniture. I wonder if people would like me to build it for them. And also if you have some spare time please tell me. If you are selling furniture on a markplace right now and you are faccing ploblems or anything like it. Please tell me what you are dealing with. I really want to make something better for all of us and add a lot of value to it. By helping me out i would really appreciate it. If you think my idee is stupid tell me asswell! i love feedback and advice! What problems i'm planning to fix with my marktplace can come later on i just wonder if you guys would be interested in my topic.

Thank you for reading!

Not in the ww business.

But know a thing or two about retail IT.

"Making" a portal is one thing. Having it withstand the casual DDOS is another. And OPERATING it is another entirely.

So, if you are one guy with a good idea, just forget it. There is no one person in the world who has all the skills required to make such a venture work out. You need multiple people /5+ or so if high-cross-skilled, 10+ if average/.

And I do not mean multiple people as in manhours. I mean as in skill sets. Human brain can handle only so much so there are no "generalist" folks who are deep in all fields and no "deep" folks who are good at cross-competency stuff.

Believe me, I know.
Personally hit this in a big IT company when we wanted to re-do our organizational structure. There were simply no people with the cross-skills on the market. We would have to train them basically from scratch (3-5 yrs min). Oh yeah, there were a LOT of people who THOUGHT they had the cross-skills. Up until we stood them in front of real problems. Then it became utterly obvious they simply did not know what they did not know.

And that was within areas in IT which are mostly "neighbours" not even getting into the finances, marketing, logistics, UI design etc. fields.

That said, if you are going after it first thing you need is scale and NOT to presume what people will want to sell is in any way related to what people will want to buy. Besides. Most bespoke furniture is made-to-order hence you are looking more into a business-contact-portal than see-what-I-made portal.

I wish you well in your endeavor, however serious it might be.

I admit that I am skeptical of a new poster with twenty minutes on the forum posting like this, but then I am a skeptical kind of guy.

All the best.

Peter,

I sent him here from another forum. The reason I did so was on the other forum he asked about selling his furniture in his area, which I recall is Holland. I know we have some very skilled and knowledgeable people from that area of the world on this forum, few if any on the other forum.

He did mention his issues with internet marketing, but did not mention he wanted to scale it as much as he does here.

If he's from Holland he can sell his furniture on www.marktplaats.nl

Big site that's used by many people to sell whatever you want.
