McFeely screw assortment in Systainer 1

Thanks Ron.  What would the cost be to just substitute the combo drive screws for the flatheads and leave everything else the same?

Hey Dave,

Over the next few days, I'll work out some different kits and list them on the website. The immediate problem I have is that our #8 combo drive has a sawtooth thread (we call it the ProMaster) so it's not a standard screw. Those threads are a benefit to most every application but it's not a complete apples to apples as is the case with the #6 and #10 sizes.

I'll post an alert when more kits are developed and ready for sale. We'll get it all worked out very soon.

All right already. I've caved in and am getting ready to order. What's everybody's preference for the finish? I've always used the gold ones from the Borg. mostly because that's what was available in the sizes I use most. What's up with the dry lube on the unfinished ones or is it just personal preference? I figure there must be some difference or they wouldn't offer 3 different finishes.

Can not wait.  Systainer and McFeely screws.....does not get any better.  Now I can have a systainer for each type of screw.  I am am on a new very steep slide.  Now I will have to buy or make a systainer cabinet. "Wo is me", I am in trouble now.

Ron....the item description says the screws are "imported".  Are these Spax from Germany?  SD

I have been picking up Sortainer #1's (4 drawer) and setting up for specific uses.

The first was filled with my Festool jig saw with all the necessities.  the saw & power cord in the large drawer.  guide plate, blades, T-bevel and other items in the smaller drawers.

The second has been filled with items needed to work with my WoodRat.

the third will hold my CD 12 drill, extra chucks, most used drill bits, pocket hole stuff, including pocket screws and odd assortments of screws, whatever will fit.

making use of the #1 sortainer in this way is freeing up the systainers the tools came in.  Those will be fitted with compartments for other items.

Not knocking McFeeleys, (theirs is a great idea) but for my small shop/small time of use/small assortment of odd items needed, I don't see a wide assortment of anything as being of value to me.  I try to keep those small items to a minimum and try to design to make use of a very narrow range of such things as bits, screws, bolts and such.  Many odd screws i will pick up exactly what I need so i don't become overloaded with never to be used items that i never can find the next time I need .  Doesn't always work, but that's the way i am trying to cut down on clutter.

Now, if McF would come up with a proposal where I could pick and chose what screws i want>>>>>>>> ::)

I'd love to see assortments offered in the Sortainers as well. Especially the one which is the same size as a Sys 1. Beats opening the lid everytime.
IMHO.

I just received a new McFeeley's catalogue - the first to come to me with a Wisconsin address.  Featured in it is the Festool Systainer with the Square drive (Robertson) screw assortment offerings.  In the catalogue (and every earlier catalogue I have received from McFeeley's), there is a page which describes the various finishes available and their relative resistance to rusting.  Of the finish types offered in this Festool package deal, the yellow zinc screws appear to have the best rust resistance, and the unfinished ones the least.

I really like the thought of being able to purchase a couple of sets with different types of screws and hope that McFeeley's can put those package offers together soon.

Hello there,

No, these aren't spax. These come from two different suppliers, both of whom are former North American manufacturers who now run their manufacturing operations out of Taiwan.

I keep applying online for a mcfeely's catalogue but I never get them  ???

If you don't mind, send me the address to which you'd like this sent. It'll go out a few hours after your email comes in to my in-box.

Hey Dave,

Here's the good news. I have my production department working on putting together all the needed parts for every one of the screw/systainer assortments suggested in this thread. An email will go out in approximately 10-12 days listing all of the different options. By that time, we should be ready.

Thanks for asking!

I caved in and ordered and received the screw/systainer deal. I ordered the screws with the yellow/gold finish as that's what I was most familiar with. When I placed my order I noticed that McFeely's also had  another screw starter set for around $20, these had the "unfinished" dry lube finish. While many of the sizes were duplicates of those contained in the systainer deal, there were a few different sizes also included. This allows me to compare the finishes. I shouldn't have to order screws for a considerable period of time. I've got screws coming out of, well, you know where. Also got a sampling of confirmat screws which I had been wanting to try. I guess you could say I've been screwed (in a good way). Had my order in about 3 days. Good job, McFeely's. (unsolicited plug) ;D ;D

I've been holding back waiting for this announcement.  Sounds like Santa will be here by Thanksgiving! I'm looking forward to the options and will probably be ordering 2 kits.

Thanks Ron. Good work.

Any update on this?  I was just on the McFeeley's site and this set is "no longer available".  Thanks.

Never mind.  I found it a different way. ::)

Hey Garry,

Things are pretty much moving along as I noted upstream. I have my production department working on assembling the needed components and we're going to try to offer these items in the next 10-14 days. My plan is to introduce a Kreg pockethole version, a McFeely's pockethole version, a connecting screw version and a combo recess version as suggested here. Price points have been established (and will be very close to the price of the original offer it not identical) and we should have all of the alternate iterations ready to go soon. As soon as we do, I'll have my artist put together an email and it'll be 'off we go' from that moment on.

I follow this thread pretty regularly so if anyone would like to see a different version, this is the place to tell me.

Thanks again,

Sure would like to see a Sortainer used as one of the configuration options. ;D

Ron, will the McFeely's pocket hole screw version include your stainless steel pocket screws?
