Hi,

I have during the last months worked on a solutions to have a very simple and easy router table.

What I  came up with - are what I  call "mini CMS"

I took a Systainer 4 and added a extentions frame to it.
Here seen on the top of another Systainer 4
[attachthumb=12]

When you take of the extentions frame you get this
[attachthumb=1]

[attachthumb=2]

When you open up the desktop you get this
[attachthumb=3]

And if you look into the box - you find all you parts for the OF 1010
[attachthumb=4]

The inner box has been taken out of the Systainer
[attachthumb=11]

How the OF1010 is fixed into the LID
[attachthumb=5]

Here the fence incl. DC

And here you connect the power, and switch on and off the router.

If you need a single table you stack you mCMS at the top on 2 Systainer 4

(All pictures has been updated - because the old ones gav some problems - Sorry)

Wow brilliant  [big grin] [eek] [smile]

Im have been thinking of a way to do this with a Maxi

Love the matching edge paint

Thanks for sharing

Haaa haa cool!  I have been thinking of making something with systainers just never really got round to it and dont wanna ruin a systainer if I cant actually make something usefull with it lol!

I would be worried using a systainer as a table extension though cus you could hit many edges on the systainer LID with your wood and cause you to stop or something and ruining your piece of wood.

Nice idea though!

Loving it!

great idea.
would love one for site work.
i was thinking of doing this with a router lift and just opening the lid and there it is ready to go.
a systainer on top for the accesories, a plug it on the side and DC port plumbed in.

could you or shane or peter etc change the size of the pics or the setting used as it is a PITA to  see

That is awesome. I love it!!  What is the table surface made of?  How much does the whole package weigh?  Is there a way to add a DC to it?

Surface is made of 19 mm MDF and the sideframe is also made of MDF. And then it has been paint in the standard Festool Gray color.
The whole package weigh 14 KG / 490 OZ this is about 6 kg more than the OF1010 + box and the tools I normally brings with me.
DC : See the new pictures I have uploaded - The current fence is very low so the DC can be a problem. I look into making a new fence.

What I did - was that I made a sample version - without making any holes in the systainer - (two only holes are the Plug and switch). So on the sample version - there powercord just came out of the box to an external power switch. So no ruined systainer.

To solve - make a 30x40cm / 12"x16" plate of 6 mm / 1/4" MDF, place it the top of the Systainer, add the end

I quite like what you have done and might attempt to do something like it.  [thumbs up]

I have made several systainer extensions, but have never gone as far as you have with your router table.  You have certtainly given me a lot to think about.

That really is brilliant. Such a great solution for having a router set-up readily onsite, being able to stack on top of a CT and keep it all secure. Really nice work. That's going to have to go on my list of things to do.
Shane, sure there isn't a job for this guy in R&D?

Wow - you need to patent that!!
I really like that concept. Even for shop usage I would love to have a mini router table that could be easily stored to complement my big table.

am i right in thinking that you removed the lid from the systainer and cut the bottom out of the top sys1 allowing it to act as a new lid and cover the fence that is left in place.

i would have used a sys 2 or more for the top lid and put a false bottom in it above the fence to store the accesories, this way you dont have to tip up the router to get at the accesories.

my plan for making one is to get a sys 4 (or 5 if needed for the incra unilift) and mount it just above the sides of the systainer. another t loc will hold the accesories( lift handle , dc fittings, plug it,cutters)

i dont see this replacing a big router table but would be perfect for smaller bits when setting up the big table would use too much space. . the fact that it can sit on top of the ct would make it ideal for site work

Alan,

He used a systainer extension frame. It's a bit like a sys1 without a bottom, but shaped to fit in place of a lid (the lid then gets mounted to the extension).

No cutting - I used the extentionframe from Festool #491631, This has the same size as a SYStainer 1 - The OF 1010 is normal delivered in a Systainer 3 - then you need two  extensionsframes - to get the same high.
Price in around 16 EURO - 20 USD without VAT
[attachimg=1]

Except for the MDF, Plexi and Hinge, all other parts are original Festool parts.
The Hinge are the best you can get from Ikea (four for below 10 USD)

The idear has never been to replace a big route table - but for site work, it is great, and easy to carry :)  - If bigger work is need I will normally bring it to the shop
