I'm having mixed results with Menzerna for polishing wood. My normal protocol is to sand with Festool abrasives and my ETS 150/3 up through 4000, then apply Menzerna. I have the fine prepolishing pastefine and the Intensive polishing compound. The prepolishing paste after the 4000 works well except I get white stuff on the wood that won't come out >:( The intensive polishing liquid has worked well on shellac, but following the paste it turns gritty and makes the wood rough. I'm using my rotex with a soft sponge pad for both (different pads for each compound so no contamination).

I know John Lucas has used this on bare wood successfully and I want to do it also, but I'm struggling here. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

John

I dont know what  is wrong. To get the white stuff out, try mineral spirits. This also may remove the rough area. If not, youare proaby going to go back to your 2000 grit sanding.  After that only use the fine compound. I hope thisa will do it. Otherwise, back to the shellac phase.

Johnbro, I've used the Menzerna system with good success with lacquer but I have no experience using it on bare wood. I believe they have specific produces for bare wood. The pastes are colored and I'm not sure the intensive polishing is for bare wood, it being a liquid I would think it would surely raise the grain causing rough spots. Maybe some else out there can offer better info.
