MFK 700 dust collection problems

I have problems with dust collection on my new MFK700.  I want to do a lot of iron on edge banding.  I had no issues getting it dialed in.  I am only working with the 1.5 degree horizontal base and its associated dust collection piece.  I have tried two different hoses but I still get a bunch of dust on me and the floor.  Not tons of dust but enough that it is a problem for me.  I had thought about also trying out solid wood edging so I tested a panel with 1/2" oak attached.  Again, I had no issues with the cut but the volume of chips increased dramatically.  I understand that larger cut, more volume but hoping they would all get sucked up and I wouldn't notice.

I don't understand why there is such a large opening on the black dust attachment.  And should the silver/metal door, behind the bit, be closed or open?  I tried both and it did not seem to affect anything.  I am open to suggestions.  I am new to this type of tool so I could have something wrong here.

On the oak, I found out why they have the zero degree base as an option.  1.5 degrees does not sound like much but in one of the pictures, even at 1/2" width, it is very obvious.  I need to order the zero degree base.

I even tried to tape up the opening in the black dust adapter but that didn't help either so I must be doing something wrong.  Using a CT26 and 2 different 27mm hoses.

I want to say that is a normal amount of dust from the operation you're performing. It isn't dust free since the dust isn't fully captured under the tool.

It's been a while since I last did and solid wood lippings (~10mm thick or there about) but, as memory goes, I'd be expecting to capture more than your "MFK half oak.png" photo shows.

If the bag's not full (been there, done that) then another thing to check is you've not turned down the suction (e.g. for sanding) and  [big grin] misremembered [big grin] to turn it back up... been there, done that too [unsure]

Thanks Matt.  Regarding the iron on banding, I am taking off about 1mm of material over a 14-16" piece.  That can't be much material.  Seems none is being picked up.  Once I tested the oak, it was clear not much is being picked up.  I have the CT26 with the Sys-Vac in place.  I do not use the tall, clear section but I do empty my Sys-Vac usually every week.  I will go through it again.

I still don't get why the adapter isn't designed differently.  When you look at it, I can see that it probably won't work that well.  Hopefully I can play with it more today.

I have been bit by the suction dial a bunch, but been getting better at it lately.  [big grin]

I've been using mine a lot lately, and maybe I'm using it wrong, but I get the same results as you.  It's a minor annoyance to me since I find the tool to be a huge time saver otherwise.

Thanks for the input.  I really want this to work for me but I have a few days before my 30 days runs out.  I could probably live with the results on iron-on banding but the mess with solid wood is really unacceptable.

I talked to support and basically got the 'thats just the way it is' regarding DC on this tool. I have read as much as I can on this tool, on this forum, and have never seen references to DC not being all that good.

Unfortunately, I don't know of a dust-free machine to cut lippings.  If you find a way, hit me up, 'cause I'm interested :).  Looks like even a Cantex, at twice three times the price (and no longer available?), produces a fair amount of chips and dust. =113

I just found a post by Paul Marcel, in another thread in September.  He indicated very good DC with his 700 so I reached out to him to see if maybe he can help.
