I'm building some cabinets that will be used in our barn.  For the back, I'm thinking some 1/4" which I can the cut flush with the MFK 700.

The cabinets will be built from 3/4" birch ply and I intend to edge band all exposed sides.  My question is can I use the MFK 700 to trim the 3/4" iron-on edge banding or is this too much tool for this?

I don't currently own the 700, only the of1400, but was thinking of making the investment as long as it will do what I need?

Appreciate any input!

Thanks,
dr

The 700 will work very well for the iron on edge banding. It can handle in stock form up to 5/8" thick material.

I had an MFK.  Terrific tool but it's pretty limited what you can do with it.  I thought it would be more like a palm router but it's really not designed to be one.  The range of depth adjustment is very limited.  It's great to leave set up for trimming.  The MFK is almost a direct copy of an older model made by Holz-her

I wasn't using it much so I sold it and bought the accessories for the OF1010 that sort of replicate the same functions for about $120 for the pair if memory serves.  It's not as quick to put together and dial in as the MFK.

This video shows a good approach for trimming iron on banding.    I have a Virutex trimmer which works well but the blades are expensive for what they are.

I was in similar situation a couple of years back, also owning of1400 as the only router at all and needed something smaller for edge trimming (as well), some other smaller jobs. After long reading and thinking, I bought...  ...Makita RT0700CX2 kit. This is really versatile, small tool with lots of useful accessories (even adapter compatible with Festool rail, I think, is available). I now use it much, much more than I thought I would.
OF1400 lives now almost only under table...

If you don't want to go another router get the Vari-Kant trimmer.
