Speaking to the question of 0.0 vs 1.5 degree base, in my fairly extensive use of the 700 I have only used the 1.5 degree base. It does a perfect job of trimming once it is "dialed in" to the right hight. The 1.5 degree bevel is barely perceptable and makes it easy to spare the counter top or shelf. I can not really imagine a use for the 0.0 degree base, but maybe there is one.
In the recent cabinet making class we used the vertical base of the 700 and the edge guide to make quick, precise dados for the back of the cabinet. I was really impressed.
Part of the good impression had to do with the Festool router bits we used. Until now I have choked on the price of most of the bits but I am now a convert -- they seem to cut wood like butter.
Special thanks to Brian and Steve, our instructors, who were great teachers. I learned a lot beyond even the wonderful "after market" manuals that others have so generously supplied. For instance you can adjust the router height guide on all the routers with a small set screw that I did not even know was there:
The parallel guides are designed to work without touching the wood being sawn or otherwise machined.
The LR-32 set up is really slick. You can drill shelf and hinge holes a mile a minute in one board after another once you get the set up.
May not be widely known: There is now a 55 inch LR-23 guide rail available in addition to the 42 and 95 inchers.
The LR-32 works easily with the 1010 and the 1400 routers.
