Now I have read Brice Burrell topic about the MFS 700 and sorry Brice I have stolen you picture to show the piece I am on about.

Now on Brice Burrell topic it shows its fixed in place but from day one I have tried and cant get mine to stay in place. I tighten that little screw so tight I feel like the hand driver is going to break on me.

Second question  what are all these things what come with it?  What do I do with them?!?!?!

JMB, the parts in the bag are the hardware to join the profiles end-to-end.  You do have to really tighten the circle-cutting insert so it wont move.  The only advice I have is maybe you can drill and tap a couple more holes of your own to tighten it down.

It's okay you used my picture, however, proper etiquette is to ask permission before using copyrighted photos on the internet.

JMB,
You might want to send that attachment back to Festool for an exchange.  I agree with Brice that it needs to be tight, but mine snugs up without using a lot of force.
The MFS is a hard tool to figure out, but once you get it, it is great.

Yes but I thought it is on the same forum so thought it would be okay I would of asked first if I was going to use the picture els where or I just wont be lazy I take a photo my self lol.  Just I was reading your topic and thought it would be quick just copy and paste.

I tighten really hard I mean really hard I am doing it so hard I am using two hands and it still moves just as freely as if I didnt tighten the screw.

End to end?  are they not little short to do that.  In yours pictures you use the guide rail jointing bars to joint them dont you?!?!?

JMB

Maybe try opening the slit in the ali withh a screwdriver first so that you have wider tounge then you will not have to tighten the srew so much, if not send it back, mine came without having to make any adjustments.

Yeah that works I hit it with a screw driver down the slit and it doesnt move but if you push hard enough you can move it so I might drill more holes to make it more secure.

Thank you!!!! All for the help!!!

If you look at where the pictures are hosted you'll see it's on my website, not here on the forum.  Like I said it's okay but I'd prefer members ask before posting.

I use the guide rail connectors because that's what I have and they work very well when the need arises.

Glad you've got the circle insert working.

Somewhat off-topic, but still related (MFS and confused that is  :P): does anyone know if the profiles of the MFS 700 or 400 set have scales (in mm I suppose) on them? I am considering buying a MFS400 with an additional set of 700mm profiles (which, curiously, is slightly cheaper than a MFS700 with additional 200mm profiles even if you end up with the same parts) and noticed that those profiles are available with and without scales.

So, for a MFS400, do all profiles have scales? none? only the long ones?

All of my MFS rails (200, 400,700 and 1000) apart from the 2000mm ones have metric scales on them.  [smile]

Sorry, i had to re-write my posting about the circle-cutting insert of the MFS as my first interpretion was wrong and my posting was misleading. so hopefully i get it better now.
Ok, it the circle cutting insert is not ho?lding it's place properly, the slot may have not been widened enough.. so to do this,

- simply take the insert out of the rail and into your hand..
- now use the hex key, which came with the rail ..
- loosen the screw completly..
- then tighten it slowly until you feel a contact of the screw with its bottom..
- now simply turn the screw another 1/2 or 3/4 turn to widen the gap..
- now loosen it again and try to fit it in the rails..
..
now it should fit perfectly and stick where you want it to..
If not, simply repeat this procedure with 1 complete turn instead of 3/4..

kind regards, Mike

The 2000mm ones have no scale at all, but just measure from the pivot point with a tape measure for the long distances.
