MFT 1080 and MFT 3 Compatability

Hi FOG,
First, thanks for all the great posts.  I check out the site everyday and it is a great source of info.  I hope to post more going forward.  Here's my question.  A neighbor has a bunch of Festools for sale including what I believe is a MFT1080.  I know there are issues connecting - if at all possible - a 1080 to a MFT 3.  Currently I have a MFT 3 Kapex and I know it is of a lower height than the standard MFT.  All that said, is there a good thread/thread/article  I should check out to understand all the differences?

The MFT1080 and MFT3 are completely different heights, and also have incompatible tracks.  The 1080 has a flat/square profile all the way around, and the MFT3 has the V-groove on the top channel.  The protractor heads are also different.

HOWEVER, with that said, if your neighbor is selling the 1080 for a good price, jump on it.  An extra assembly/layout/cutting table is invaluable if you have the space.
I put mine on bed risers so it's higher.  Saves the back.  ;-)

I bought a MFT 1080 a few month back for $200.  No cuts in the top and less the fence and rail set up. It looked new (when I got it  [embarassed])

I have a /3 and 1080 in tandem.  The 1080 is lower, but i have 2x4 pieces turned on edge for an extended cutting surface.  The 2x4's bring the 1080 to exactly the same height as the /3 table.

there is a listing in my local craigslist for a MFT 1080.  New, unused will all accessories.  The guy is asking $496.  He had it listed for a while now.  He was

asking $510 for a long time.  He states that he paid $830 for the table when he bought it new.  [scared]  [eek]

Was the MFT 1080 that much when it was in production?

Thanks everyone!  Particularly the $200 you paid Eric.  I offered $200 for the table w the parts but it was pretty beat up. No deal as of yet.  I wasn't sure if it was all there and it having to get parts later has often turned a good deal bad for me when you factor in the extra cost and time to get it back to new and fully functional.  There was a bunch of Festo stuff too so I'm guessing the equipment has been around quite a while.
