mft 3 classed as a powertool!

tried to buy a mft 3 online today from a dealer(uk) who offered 10% off everything except powertools,wouldn't give the discount as apparently festool class the mft3 as a powertool,how can they get away with this,it's beyond belief ???

Well on this side of the pond, anytime you see a sale, the fine print always says "except. Festool". Applies to everything. MFT, sandpaper, etc. Are we the only ones with fixed pricing?

Well, since it's classed as a powertool, you do get the 30 day return guarantee (at least in NA).

hmm, perhaps here's a work around......

Well, if it's classified as a power tool,
and since an MFT is used in conjunction with almost every video Festool makes when using a CT23 or CT36,

so,
You should get 10 percent off the CT when buying The MFT with a CT as a package.

ergo,
Since an MFT and a CT are about the same price, there's your 10 percent.

In the chilling winter I hook 2 electrical wires to 2 of the legs on the mft and than it stays nice and warm,,,there you see it is a power tool.

In the UK, Festool products are divided into 2 categories; 'Powertools' and 'Accessories'.

The MFT3 falls into the powertool category simply because it isn't an accessory.

The difference between the 2 categories, as far as pricing is concerned, is simple - Powertools cannot be discounted AT ALL. Accessories can, at the dealer's descretion, be discounted up to a maximum of 20%, although as you have found 10% is more common. There are some online dealers who automatically give the full discount and some that don't; when looking for accessories it definitely pays to shop around...

I bought my Parallel guide set in Slingers where you are trying to buy the MFT they are a good dealer but as said above they are not allowed to discount power tools only accessories

well, as festoolfootstool suggested, i did take my business elsewhere,rang my local dealer and he informed me that it wasn't classed as a powertool and that he would give me 10% off,so i ordered it and the parallel guides for good measure(no pun intended)

You're a lucky man then! I think the dealer is mistaken, and you've saved a bit through that. I've been told by two Festool UK employees that the MFT3 is not classed as an accessory.
