MFT/3 Extrusions for Gluing-up assemblies (alternative to Jerry's Arms)

Hello all,

I have been searching around for anyone doing the same thing, and I can't find anything, so I think I may have a bad idea. What I want to do is this. In order to get a known-square corner to assemble casework and such, like Jerry's Arms, on the MFT/3, I am thinking of mounting some MDF on the side T-Tracks (not the V-groove on the top, the horizontal T-Track), and clamping into the corner formed there.

Am I doing something stupid here?

Thanks for any feedback,

Tony

I also have two MFTs mated together for extra assembly room. I always use waxed paper under the glue up areas to protect the MFT surfaces.

I would think that would be pretty square down near the table.  If it gets tall(over 6") i'd add a corner clamp on the top.
If it's just thin stock(under 4") I think youd be fine.  What thickness MDF? obviously thicker material will be more rigid.  you could use dogs in the holes instead??

Thanks Rob, I am thinking of 3/4" MDF, for the rigidity reason you mentioned, and only with assemblies less than an in or two in thickness (face frames and such things).

So I could use dogs (I have a set of Qwas dogs), but that would dig into the work under clamping pressure.

From some of the other replies (thank you!) I think my solution in the original post was not well-worded. I want to secure 3/4 MDF perpendicular to the table top, on two sides, to form a corner to clamp into, on that main MFT table only (I am not looking to extend the table...not yet ;)

Thanks! I think I am going to give this a shot on my next project, if it fails utterly I will let you know here.
