MFT 3 modification

After a nice Craig's List purchase, I have two MFT 3 tables.

Is there any reason not to move the factory fixed stops on one of the tables from the long sides to the short sides and then mount a longer guide rail so I could have a longer cross cut capacity?

I tried to do a search and did not get an answer. Maybe I used the wrong terms.

The common reason not to move them is that they are set at the factory as precise as supposedly possible. Move them and you remove that accuracy. I ordered another set of stops to install on the long side and left the original ones in place. This way I retain the factory setting and can use a longer rail on the long side. I find the longer rail on the long side far more convenient than the short side. I don't know why Festool doesn't install stops on both sides. Don't remember how much they were but it wasn't much.

First thing I did was moved the stop so I can slide the guide rail mount from the right vs. default left.  I ended up spending tons of time making sure I was satisfied with the new spot being parallel to one of the edge of the MFT table.

I have used Qwas rail dog to slot a lengthwise cutting.  I probably agonized over cutting the top both short length and long length.  I have come to terms with it since.

Squaring the rail to the MFT/3 top is a piece of cake.  This is how I do it.  If I did the kind of cross-cutting that the OP is talking about, I'd buy an extra set (or two) of the stops and lock them in on the short sides of the MFT/3 to make it easier to switch back and forth as needed.
