MFT/3 review

Woodnerd, I appreciate the fact that you want to steer a bit of traffic to your site. However, this is a content rich site and to help keep it that way it would far better to post your review here and not just a link to it.  I hope this post doesn't come across as rude, that's not my attention.

I appreciate what you're trying to say, but replicating the entire review would a real pain, if not impossible.

Also, when I wrote up my review on the T15 last year, I specifically asked about this issue.  Shane said "you're very welcome to post a link to your own website or another website at any time".

Nice review.  The cross-members will help make the table more solid IMHO...I have them and like them a lot.

Best written review I've seen of this table. Loved the video segments and detailed photos. Festool should give you a commission. You can spend part of that commission buying me an MFT/3 as now I REALLY want one
 
Nice review.  Do you know what's far better than an MFT3???  --- Two MFT3's.  You mention the issue of table size.  I would not be in favor of a bigger table as it lacks the flexibility of 2 MFT3's.  They can be adjacent and locked together, or the they can be spanned by your project, materials, etc if you are working on something oversize.  I had an 8 foot long buffet up on 2 MFT3's that were spaced apart.  I do realize that cost is an issue.

I like this setup so much that the tables are in the center of my shop and the European style workbench is now off to a corner.  I do wish we had a few more hold down options like the equivalent of a woodworkers vise.

 
Well, I totally disagree with that. For a shop setting the large profiles MFT's are the way to go.

Festool should make the new profile in the 72" length like they did the old profile. Sure you can do as you say and put an 8 foot cabinet up there, but come on a 72" x 48" deep table would have had to make it easier.

The little tables are fine, but for me and I initially did this, having several of them and locking them together, etc and then pulling them apart is just a hassle and very expensive! One larger MFT should cost nowhere near two regular ones.

IMHO, they need a bigger version for shop. Then someone can buy one regular for misc and field work and one larger unit for the center of the shop. And yes, then even hook those together as I did to get a 110" on occasion.  :)

I would have purchased two large profile tables if they were ready made in a heart beat. Making them was a hassle, but I just had to do it.

This has been discussed before, but Festool DO make the longer MFT3 profiles. Part no 496824, 'MFT/3-TP 2000 LA'. 2x 2m (78 3/4") MFT3 profiles.

They're just NAINA...

MFT/3-TP 2000 LA nr:496824 goes by the pair, and in Holland it cost's 188,85 euro's per 2..

Hello Woodnerd. I think your review was outstanding. Its nice when someone enjoys festools so much, that they take the time to review it. letting us to re-appreciate what we have ,or want. Thanks for not making the review 30 pages of blabber.  Keep up the good work. Great review of the MFT/3!!!  The pics are wonderful.  I've had my MFT/3 for nearly a year and I learned something that I hadn't known before, so THANKS for the enlightenment.

RATZ!!!   [mad]  This is just what I'm looking for.  Shane, you need to communicate with your contacts that they need to bring these longer profiles into NA.  I'd be willing to bet that Festool would sell a heap of them.

Still, it is a hassle to make the larger tables, can you get the 48" extrusion? If so what is that part number? And the part number of the corner connectors?

I think  just offering a bigger table would be best. Or at least a kit that has all the parts together. Add up all the parts and if you want Festool legs the existing units are not really made for such a large table. It seems a kit could be a lot less money and definitely make it simpler to source. And legs designed for a larger table would be nice.  :)

Maybe they will come to America, they sold the old extrusions here, possibly it is just a matter time.

Oh and I am Dovetail.  :)

The parts which are available in the US market are the parts for the standard table - I guess by '48" extrusion' you mean the longer rails on the MFT3? If so, all the part numbers/prices for the rails & corners are on EKAT.

I know whats available in the US, I made two of the large tables. And my point is it was a real pain to source the parts. In the US they don't sell the longer extrusions new or old style  so the point is mute.

I guess there is just no market for the large table or they would make the parts simple to find at dealers instead of going to EKAT. And many now will ask. " well where is the link", That's just my point, its a real pain making the larger tables, sourcing the parts, etc.  :)

This review by the OP is really good though.

Go to www.festoolusa.com, and click on 'support'. Then on the dropdown, click on 'parts catalog'. Done. It took me longer to type that sentence than it did to find it. It's not difficult. Once you get the part numbers, just order them from your dealer. I don't see how Festool could make it any more straightforward.

I do agree with you on the last point, though - the review is excellent!
 
Well straightforward would be just offering it as a product not a bunch of parts. I guess I am just not making that point strong enough.

And for me and you yes simple, for a lot of guys that get Festools not so much. Many here can barley make a post and we can't forget that. Expecting people new to Festool or even the internet to find it on line by just saying go to EKAT is asking a lot. Calling a dealer for many is simper. For me I like no voice contact, give me a link and let me use a credit card, I don't want to talk to anyone, just a waste of time. And walk into a dealer, they will probably say there is no such thing. We tend to know more here then many storefront  dealer salespeople..

Offering a  package for a large MFT table or just sell us a large MFT table is my main point.

I would like the OP to do a work up on the larger MFT and how he could benefit from it. Make suggestions for better legs, comment on stability, etc. The OP does a nice job reviewing. But he could not get his hands on one and no one else in the US could either so I guess it would be for you guys across the pond. Jerry Work's large MFT write up will have to do for now.
 
I am considering buying an MFT 3, but do not intend to buy (cannot afford) a Either TS plunge saws. I have an OF1400 and a PSB300. Is it worth while to buy the MFT 3 with accessories to use with these tools?  What accessories will I have to have for a basic setup for these tools on MFT? I am a hobbyist and already have a decent table saw. Advice would be appreciated!!
