MFT/3 Shipping; What would you prefer

It has come to our attention that many users don't like to do the LTL method of delivery.  I am curious as to your thoughts.

I would avoid UPS like the plague, if you want these to make it in one piece.
I have had great luck with ABF Also look at Fed Ex Home, I have found them Waaaayyyyy cheaper and better.
But I think ABF is better.

Paul it is in the packing! I have used UPS for over 900 deliveries to and from and only ever had one package damaged. Nothing has ever been lost either. I also have sent several large packages to Ireland UPS and everything ran smooth each time.

Absolutely Brice!  The reason that the MFT 1080's never went was because of packaging.  On more occasions than not, the profiles were damaged / bent / corner profiles tweeked etc.  We have "pimped out" the packaging of the MFT/3 and feel very comfortable in shipping the table with UPS. 

I am just trying to get a bead on the consensus.  Festool improved the packaging already, and then we take about 30 minutes to augment the packaging, and fully anticipate shipping UPS! 

From various e-mails I have received over the past years, the LTL method poses a significant inconvenience to the client.  They have to get a call to set up an appointment time, then historically confirm the time, then they have to take off work to meet the driver at the specific time.  I just feel that since we have taken EXTREME measures to beef up the packaging, that some may find it easier to get home to find an MFT/3 waiting for them.

I'm sure this would not apply to 99+% of your customers but here is my experience with these delivery services to a remote area.  I live in a remote part of southwest Oregon, two miles down a dirt road.  LTL will not come down the road, I have to drive four miles to meet them to pick up the delivery.  UPS and FedEx are great, always deliver to my door.  US postal service, no mail delivery, must have PO Box.  Then there is ABF - could not be worse.  They only come this way when they have enough items to justify the trip to this area. . . this includes items shipped next day air - I have had them hold the package in Medford for five days before delivering a next day air shipment.

Well, UPS didn't love my Festool boxes much.  Last order was three out of three boxes damaged.  Inside, the Systainers proved more durable than one might expect, but the new guide rail is only good for cutting curves on bowed boards.

Corwin, early on we had a couple of rails come back bent as well.  We are now using them for radius work.  One of the 106" inch we can actually get a 17"radius pretty easy.

We take a lot of extra time in packaging; we reinforce our rails with 1/2" OSB strips.  It helps, adds a bit of weight to the cost, but we would rather it get to you in a usable condition.
