hi they say the mft 3 has a thousand uses .has anyone done a list of what it can do .when is the mft 4 coming out

I can't count that high.....

I use the .....out of mine. I have 8 of them. I don't think 1000 is a high enough number for all I put them through.

3 set up as a spray table.

I can see the uses, I just don't feel like typing them.  :0

I'm currently a bit torn about buying an MFT/3, an MFT/3 basic, or just the top.

I already have an old timey roubo workbench in the making.  My initial attraction
to the MFT was the fact that I wouldn't be able to secure the guide rails with my thick
hand tool benches (have an of1010 and soon a ts55 or tsc55) .  Next is the fact that the dog hole
pattern is as close to perfectly square as you can get.  I know that a top with dogs will technically do
what I need right now.  However, I could use a portable bench, and I'm lazy.  Having the extruded aluminum
channels on the side for the t-track clamps is really nice.  Much like how you'd use a front vise on a bench.

It seems really wobbly.  If you have 8 of them, I'm guessing that that hasn't been a problem with power tools
and assembly and whatnot?

They have some wobble to them, doesn't bother me. The braces help. If I want it rock solid I kick the legs out as I tighten them.

Get the one with the accessories, you get an extra rail and cross cutting wide parts on the MFT is well worth the investment.

A bevel rip using the front of the MFT.

I've never worried about how many uses it has; only whether it works for what I want when I need it. I would never use it as a solid bench for hand planing or using a spokeshave. I have a large solid bench for those things. However, for assembly, using the Domino, crosscutting with the TS55, routing using the guide rail, clamping things in place while I sand. . . Almost every time I'm in my shop I use it for something. I like it best for doing final crosscuts for length that are perfectly square. It's one of the tools I use most in my shop. Installing one brace helps it stabilize. I would imagine one in front and back would be better, but it will never be as stable and solid as a regular large workbench (although I know some have made modifications that stabilize it even more). If that is what you are looking for, I'd say go the direction of a large bench either one you make or purchased.

I got 3 , 2 MFT 3s and 1'Kapex MFT, I use mine for about everything, great especially for sanding and assembly of case work. If I have to single out the one thing I like the best about it , would be using it for a door bench routing hinge mortises and planing to the scribe line.

I want to buy another Kapex MFT and a MFT 3

I'm definitely not using hand tools on it.  [scared]
I've found that the reverse applies too.
I wouldn't be too thrilled about using power tools on a bench catering
to hand planes and chisels.

I went with two replacement tops and a customized dewalt stand.

That's neat.  Is it physically attached?  Can you pull the top and show what's below?  I see maybe 4 of the miter saw mounts but there also appears to be something else.

Tops come off the aluminum channels and are fixed in place by Lee Valley high friction pad's when in use in this photo. I also have configurations using 80/20 15 series.

.

Slick.  Easier to break down with the friction tape vs bolts.  Where did you get the I-beam extrusions?

How do you avoid cutting into the aluminum sides?
Hmm, how about a sacrificial piece sandwiched behind it?

Set the blade at the proper depth.

Do you have fans behind the filters? I would love some additional info about this setup.
