Hello,

New to FOG. First time woodworker as well.
Recently (a couple of years) ago purchased my Festool (set). Now in the process of setting up my garage.
I have the MFT/3 and CMS-VL, from what I have learnt CMS-VL will work with Festool MFT/3.
Any other alternative to get that setup separately without MFT.
Kindly suggest.

Not that Im aware of. Unless you can find some way to simulate the V groove it mounts to

CMS-VL attached to the MFT, CMS-GE is the base unit that takes the same modules but can stand alone.

Whole of CMS is eol btw.

buy a single length of the extrusion from the MFT/3 and secure that to a wall or workbench.

Yes. Frankly I bought this with limited knowledge a couple of years ago, but never got to it yet until this year and now I’m realizing VL is phased out already.
Trying to rather find ways to use them instead.
Any idea on what’s replacing it?

Using the CMS-VL extrusions for an attachment point I can see multiple ways to build an attachment point for it. Unfortunately with a quick google search I can not find a decent picture of the attachment side of the CMS-VL and have never actually seen one in person. Got a clear photo of the attachment side? Mine is the free standing type unit so I can't compare. To cut a V notch is very easy with a table saw or track saw. Tilt the blade to 45* make a pass one direction, flip the piece around and make a second pass. Even easier would be to just bolt to the T slot in the extrusion though. You could easily build wings for it too.

Another option would be to take the legs off and just build a simple cart for you CMS-VL. From there you can design anything that can be attached to the extrusions.

By the time you buy the MFT extrusion you might as well just buy the MFT/3, otherwise I would just consider the $100 for the extrusion a waste of money. Could it be possible to buy the back extrusion like the CMS-GE, the corner braces, and another leg set to turn it into a CMS-GE? Looks like it would need enough parts it might be cheaper to sell the VL and buy a GE version which is always an option.

Closest images I could find, which do not show the actual mounting side clearly.

I have the mft and was wondering if having that extra mobility to have its own station a better idea
Yup I missed the part that you own an MFT. Doh! To be clear though can you post a photo of the VL side that attaches to the MFT? Folks might offer up a simple solution. Attaching to a wall or sturdy work bench will always be the most solid.

Also since this is such an international board it would be good to put your country of origin into your profile :)

I can have a photo uploaded tomorrow.
As suggested (as will I do myself later) you could buy the extrusion from Festool (comes in 2 pack of 2 meters length extrusions) This way you can mount it to both walls, tables etc.

Here ya go!:
These are from VB-CMS/CS50, but exactly the same as VL. (My VL has the router mounted so it was easier to remove this table..)

Are those plastic parts on the bottom are removable? It looks easy enough to use some MDF or ply and fabricate some kind of mount. A couple t-slot type bolts/nuts in the T-track (Like 1/4"x20 toilet bolts) will secure it tight. 2x4's work great for structure. Mounted to the wall would be solid. A couple legs could easily be built to make it free standing.

Petty sure they’re removable, also pretty sure they slide of the track, after unscrewing the bolt that’s adjusting height of the black plastic part that sits in the V groove. Though, I’ve not tried.
Should be fairly easy to adopt to another fabricated ply, MDF or even to another aluminium profile.
