Hello all.  I'm new to the forum, but have been a "ghost" on here for the past few months.  Somewhat new to Festool (the past year) and, like many of you, wished I got into Festool sooner  [big grin]  I just bought my MFT a few weeks ago and came up with something I found handy, so I figured I would post it.  I recently had a job where I had to fit a bunch of door slabs.  The pegs worked out really well for mortising hinges.  I'm sure they could be used for other things as well.  Hope yall can benefit from this and make your own or come up with something better.

Here they are.  Made from 36mm bicycle seat post clamps, 1/2" steel pipe, and bicycle grips.

A mounted 24/78 door.

The clamps are independently adjustable.  Here is the door with the pegs maxed out in opposite directions.  Don't know how handy this is, but just wanted to show the adjustability.

Ok...quitting time.  Pack it up!

[welcome] to the FOG LOSTINTHEWOOD!

I think that's a really good idea and perfect color too!

My advice would be to make something up for your clamp, like a thin plywood block to spread the clamping pressure on the door and keep it from being marked.

Good job!

That is an awesome idea. I've always used systainers for the same end result, but it's irritating when something is in the systainer when a door is on top of it. I don't have my MFTs around, what size seatpost clamp? I know I have a few floating around from the last few mountain bike builds.

Thanks for the tip.

Thanks guys.   Ken, I hear ya on the clamp.  The small foot on those clamps could easily blow through hollow core doors.  I was thinking of modifying the smaller quickgrip type clamps by replacing the fixed jaw with something like what's on the festool clamps.  Or maybe get a set of those festool ratcheting type clamps.  Was also thinking of integrating some kind of rubber friction pad between the MFT and the material clamped.  Oh and about the color. I specifically picked out lime green grips because they are a functional item, you tighten and loosen the peg to release the clamp.

tDot, the clamp is a 36mm quick clamp.  There is also a 34.9mm (i think) and that one will fit, but too small to release enough to make sliding up and down the leg easy. The MFT legs measure about 34.5 - 35mm dia.  You also have to be able to spread the clamp enough to get past the welds on the cross bars.  Also, I changed out the bolt to a 1/4-20 because the originals were smaller and a loose fit.  The assembly also sees a bit of moment force, so a larger bolt just makes sense.  Didn't try putting a solid core door on them yet...we'll see.

These things could be built better and stronger, but for about $26 in available parts and two hours work (some machining) I just couldn't resist.  You know Festool would prolly charge you $80 for these things if they made them.....and I really needed them at the moment..lol.

Great idea that I hadn't thought of. I think I'll have to make those. This is another great example of the power of the FOG.

Great idea!

I think I remember Per had a similar setup on his MFT, though he used quick-clamps or something.

I think I saw that on the internet somewhere.  It was a quickgrip type clamp zip tied to the cross brace or something of that nature.  However, that was not my inspiration.  I had reached back into my 80's childhood and referenced BMX freestyle fork stands.  I knew that's what I wanted, but how would I do it?  Ironically I ended up back at the bike shop    8)
