Need: safe storage/travel container for the protractor/fence/rail assembly for the MFT3.
Premise: first effort, working box. NOT a piece of furniture. Materials must be in the shop already.
So, in playing around, I came up with an open top box, sliding door. Not sure how I will retain the door, other than it has to be level or open-end-up.
Major dimensons: 10" x48" x 4". Could be slightly less, but mostly in the width. With the rail lengths, not much length savings.
The main rail is inserted assembled. No sense in making more work on use, or in storing the pieces/assembling/disassembling on use or storage. I made this so that you use the height adjustment as a locking element of storage -- loosen the adjustment, slide the assembly against the case.
It seems relatively rattle free. The back fence is oriented to keep the face edge off of the case, though that might be better to be reversed.
The mdf sides are not a preferred material, but were scraps that otherwise needed to be consumed. You can't keep everything.
Future models could include the other clamping components by making the case dimensions different. That would save me a Systainer1. But, heavier and bulkier too.
I couldn't find any other posts for doing this, so here is my first effort. I'd love to see others take on this. My needs were preserving the value of the parts, in the van and in the shop. Pretty is what I make to show.
The white faced mdf might make a good place to sketch and write cut lists on. Will see when I set the table up -- length might be my friend if it can fit across the leg cross members. Or make it some other useful feature of the 'system'. Ideas?
Enjoy!
