hey all

Im making a new work bench for the shop, and on part of it i want to bore hole like that on the mft table.  I was going to use the LS system and not sure if i should use a 20mm spiral router bit (cmt makes) or the 20 mm hinge bit that festool offers.  I have both the 1010 and 1400 router also.  which i think the 1400 fits on the ls system.  I was going to use the shorter track and just index it for the length that i need.

Suggestions?

the hinge bit worked for me.

I also made a few tops with a regular non spiral CMT bit, and a OF1010, the biggest advice i can give is to make the cut in 3 rapid up and down plunges, this allows the chips to clear and uses the router inertia for the drilling.
Otherwise you start burning the mdf and the bit.

I used the 20mm hinge bit (part number 491072) with no problem

Hope it helps,
Daniel

I've used this too and it makes nice clean holes quickly.

If you picky you might not like it because the holes are 20.2mm in diameter.
That's a problem when using QWAS Dogs etc.

My MFT/3 holes measure 20.00 - 20.10 in the worn holes.  They do vary slightly among tops.
