Having seen & read quite a bit about MFT tables I've been toying with the idea that an MFT top might be a good addition to the van for site work, I could mount it on trestles & if I can make it in the shop from off cuts it wouldn't matter if it got knocked around.

I figured the easiest way to go about making the top was to first make a template, this I did with the help of an engineering friend starting with some marking out on a piece of 1/2" MDF on his Bridgeport.

Then on to the drilling which was made easy with the X Y axis.

The holes are 30mm to fit my router guide bush,

Next up was making some dogs these were turned from aluminium bar

Both ends were turned & them cut in half

After more turning I ended up with these

The heads of the smaller dogs are a smidgeon under 30mm so as to be a snug fit in the template, while the smaller diameter is machined to match a 3/4" router cutter I have.

This is the holes being cut referencing the template to the previous cut holes with the smaller dogs & held with clamps

I've still got to plane up a couple of bearers to fix to the underside which will sit on the trestles but it's nearly ready for use, I did do a quick check with my inspection square in a few locations on the top which gave pleasing results.
