MFT3 and Vices

I was going to put this one on my mft/3, but I figured there would be catastrophic failure of something.

Only about 90 pounds of cast iron. [big grin]

Someone here is going to figure out how to get this onto a mft/3.  This needs a home in with the new technology.

As a different approach, maybe an art piece clamping some other type of art piece.  Like maybe clamping the head of my neighbor.  ;D  Did I say that out loud?

I did miss having a vice and bought one of these:

I find it very useful (I also got it a lot cheaper than this -  I can try and find out where if you are interested)

Thanks Cliff.

I have been wondering how to fix a vice to my MFT. I came up with fancy ideas of fixing it to the side rails but I was worried about it staying solid when doing a bit of hand planning. The vice you recommended is just what I am after, thank you very much.

Hey guys came across this thread while killing time.  Woodmatt I have the same back problems.  However your about 6" taller than me so that makes it all the worse for you.  Anyways I'm very interested in a MFT but I need 38"-42".  I have the horses for anything heavy but for woodworking and anything that requires long periods of bending over I will ruin my day.  I've started my own custom build with some IPE as frame work and its pretty slick.  However it's heavy.  I will eventually cut and route holes and handles which will help with weight, but leg wise I have not started to build. ( currently use horses as support and gain about 5" so I'm close to 35" which is still a deal breaker)  I'd buy a MFT for job sites if I could find a way to raise to my desired hight and keep my custom build at home.. I'd greatly appreciate any input or pics of what u find.  Why can't they have adjustable legs?!

I fitted a vice on my home made MFT.

Here is the model:

I couldn't be happier with my new "MFT". After using booth MFT1080 and MFT/3 in my shop for several years I now feel that I have the best of two worlds, i.e: a very sturdy work bench with a vice as well as all the functionality of the MFT (and some more). If anyone is interested in building a similar table I'd be glad to send you the cad drawings, booth 3D-model and 2D construction drawings.
