This started out as an experiment in using veneer scraps that I couldn't get myself to throw away.  I basically built a piece of furniture around those scraps.  The legs are solid, the carcass is veneered Baltic Birch, and the grills are MDF with acoustic fabric from Gilford of Maine.  Finish is Rubio walnut color.  The sweet pictures are all my wife--she saw my pictures and had to set me straight [big grin].

Thanks for looking!

Wow really cool.
Like the horizontal sections on legs and the embossed logo on the right side.
What method did you use to laminate the multiple veneer sections to the door fronts?

Nothing special, just a lot of cutting and taping into a sheet that I glued onto a piece of plywood in a vacuum bag.  Even though the pieces are all the same size & shape, I found that I still had to hand-fit every piece.

[member=3513]PaulMarcel[/member] Thanks!  Love your videos  [big grin]

[member=59550]cider[/member], your beloved spouse is an excellent photographer!  Good on her!  Take her out to a nice place for dinner, and do it soon...  [big grin]

[member=7493]Sparktrician[/member] Indeed, she deserves it.

[member=61712]six-point socket II[/member] Thank you!

I love your piece! Seeing that might inspire me to get off my butt and actually use some of the veneer I’ve been hoarding for years.

[member=59550]cider[/member], first, I think I owe you an apology.  In recognizing your wife's superb photography, I neglected your craftsmanship in creating that spectacular cabinet.  Second, your execution was utterly amazing, especially in the way you created the veneer pentagons.  It took me a bit to see what you did, but your joinery of the pentagons is reflective of your precision.  I also really like the way you curved the front edge of the cabinet top and bottom.  It appears that you used three 120 degree angles and two 90 degree angles.  How close did I come?

That's fantastic, full of custom touches. The curved fronts, patchwork panels, pentagonal wiring opening, half lapped stretchers, the engraving. You should be proud of that and the wife for capturing it so well.

The curved fronts

Yeah, this did it for me. I've been spying a much bunch of mid-century pieces with similar attributes and, wow, just love it.

[member=75283]4nthony[/member] Thank you!  I've love to do it all over to push some things even more, but my project backlog is bad enough [big grin]

[member=58857]Crazyraceguy[/member] One thing I love about this place is that people notice the little things.  I'm a huge fan of your work, so the kind words mean a lot!

[member=7493]Sparktrician[/member] No apology necessary, but I appreciate the compliments!  And I'm in agreement: my wife's photos are beautiful; you don't even want to see my attempt.  Looks like your guess on the angles was pretty close; I think I used this formula.  I made a template with Shaper Origin and used it to cut everything by hand.  Taping it all up was fussy, but I enjoy veneer work.

Thank you!  I couldn't figure out how to @mention you for some reason, but I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only hoarder.  Sounds like I'm in good company.

[member=59550]cider[/member], I think it's this pattern.  In any case, it's really well done.  [smile]

[member=58842]guybo[/member] Thanks!  I think the pattern is called cairo tiling.

[member=79135]Heathwarren[/member] Thank you so much  [big grin]

[member=7493]Sparktrician[/member] Not sure, but I think those are the same?  Just a bigger piece of the picture, maybe?  In any case, when I was building it, I was thinking in terms of side length rather than angles.  I knew adjacent sides had to match length, and that made it easy to draw an SVG for Shaper.

Oh, no, you are certainly not the only hoarder. I have a mountain of off-cuts, extra boards, dismantled crate parts, reclaimed barn beams, and more veneer pieces than I can count.
4 years of collecting after losing way more in a fire.
There are more of us here.
