Milling service in Los Angeles area

Forgive me if this has been asked before. Does anyone have any source for mobile tree milling service in the Los Angeles area. I have a coastal Redwood tree that will need to be removed at my home and I would like to be able to use the lumber for a future outdoor project.

I had sent Angel city an email earlier in the week, their fee was pretty high compared to the actual value of the potential lumber.

I run into this thinking a lot.  I think many amateurs look at fallen trees, or ones that are slated to be taken down as "free" or cheap source of lumber for their hobby projects.

Portable sawmills are not cheap to buy or operate. They are not making any money sitting idle.  Moving around logs large enough to make decent boards is not easy either.  Then there's the "house call" fee people seem to forget about.  This all adds up.

The setup charge is the same whether you have one tree cut or ten.  The more logs you mill , the more efficient .  This is why hiring these things for the milling one tree rarely makes sense from a comparative economics standpoint.  You really need to put a healthy price on the homegrown or sentimentality of your tree for this to be worthwhile.

Ya, I agree. I removed a maple from the back yard to make room for a large garden. I arranged for a cutting/milling service to slab the tree. What I received was 20+boards that looked like pretzels.
I wanted to use the maple in our back yard to produce something that would be of significance but that was not to be. The only out is to cut the maple slabs into small pieces and use it for smoking food.  [crying]
