When I tried to install my 1400 router table widener, I realized the screws for the default base were not long enough for the table widener base. Was I supposed to get long screws with my purchase?

Also, I'm not quite sure I even understand how the table widener is supposed to work with the guide rail. My understanding was that the widener was 5mm thick, so it would be level without the use of the foot. But my widener is a full 10mm thick.

yes its supposed to come with a pack of longer screws.

when you take off the base you have on now and then place this one on it becomes the correct height to level it with the track. check the box it came in for your screws.

They're very replaceable though if you are missing them. M4 I believe. You need 5 because one of the holes is unused depending on how you orientate the base.

I just emailed Bob Marino.

Bob Marino sent the screws right away. The screws he sent were too long, and they were Phillips. He sent them directly from Festool. He will resend the screws.

Before he does, am I doing something obviously wrong when attaching the table widener?

Festool is telling me I got the right screws. But I have tried them over and over and they are too long. Festool claims that the length of the screw is 14.5 mm, 12mm for the threaded part and 2.5 mm for the head.

Can someone verify the length?

The screws fit after all. I just needed to use more force.

Normally, I don't use too much exertion with machine screws, because you can easily strip them. Hence, when I tightened the screws down, I thought I could go no further. On a whim, I decided to used a bit more force and discovered that was all I needed. The screws seated the base securely to the router.

I got a bit frustrated a week into this problem, but Festool and Bob Marino patiently stuck with me until I figured out a solution. So thanks to Bob, Shane Holland, and especially Brent Shivley at Festool, who even called me late one evening to help me.
