Mission end table

Here's a mission end table I just completed. I used my entire Festool fleet at some point. I had some tearout in the top from the planer. The Rotex 150 w/80 grit did a great job of removing it and kept it nice and flat. It's all Domino joinery. The through tenons are fake. (Don't tell Gustav Stickley...) The finish is Transtint dye/shellac/General Finishes gel stain/shellac/4 coats of Target EM6000 satin lacquer sprayed by HVLP.

No, they're too small for dominoes. I used mortise and tenon.

Untidy, it's quartersawn white oak. Grows in south central US. If you Google it, you'll see pics of how they cut the log to expose the fleck. Very nice to work with.

wow, I kinda based it on a Stickley 89-746 end table, but added a drawer. I saw one in the Denver Stickley store and snuck a few measurements. I especially wanted to get the korbels proportioned correctly.

I am not crazy about the color but I know it's hard to get an accurate color balance with some cameras.

Yeah, color is hard to discern from a picture. It took many tests/samples to get the right dye/stain combo to what we liked. I'm going to build 6 or 7 various pieces for our house, so I took time to obsess over the final color. Had to document every dye mixture along the way. The runners are 3/8" dadoes (routered on the CMS) in the drawer sides, and complementary strips dadoed in the frame side. There's also a runner on the bottom to prevent binding.

Beautiful!!  Beautiful in every aspect.  I too, love the contrasting drawer and the figure in the wood is fabulous!  Absolutely love white oak.  It's probably my personal favorite wood to work with.  Thanks very much for sharing this!
