hi all

i am going to buy a collins coping foot and saw their spring clamps on the site.
link

they are spring steel and used for holding miters closed while the glue sets.

does any one have any opinions on these ones specifically or this type of tool in general.
do you need the pliers to use them properly / safely

is there any other brands out there that are better

anywhere on my side of the pond selling good ones.

I have a couple dozen of them.  they work good for lots of tasks.

The are not as good as the clam clamps but, they really are not in the same class.

Yes definitely. Actually I don't know how you can use them without the pliers?

I have both the Collins and Ulima and I like the Ulima spring clamps better. They seem to be a little bit more heavy duty.

The Ulima are made in Germany. I did find them at Dieter Schmid - Fine Tools

Only if you like your fingers and don't want to be ER mates with JMB.

They will leave little visible indentations in wood, so if it's going to be stained trim, consider that.  Cam clamps are also very good and also leave little marks, but less than the Collins clamps.

I have the Collins and the Clam clamps. I use them for different things. The clams are awesome for door and window casings. The Collins are good for things like gluing a crown molding outside corners. Yes, you want the pliers.

I have the Collins clamps also, I couldn't imagine using them without the pliers. You can get the clamps off the material without the Pliers but getting them on and aligned without the pliers will be pretty tough.  I need to order a pair of clam clamps I've seen them in person and the quality of the clamps is incredible and they really apply a tremendous amount of clamping pressure.
