I'm hoping to take advantage of the 15% Jet sale and pick up a jointer.  What are some of the better mobile bases to look at?  I'm thinking of the 6" jointer, which weighs about 260lbs.

I've found the HTC-2000 and Portamate PM-1000 and PM-2500.  They seem pretty similar.  Are there any outstanding features, or choices I am missing?

I have several of the Shop Fox from Grizzly and like them. Easy to put together and adjust to the right size.

I have one of the Jet bases that I will be using for my J/P combo, but it has pre drilled side bars which allow for only certain, fixed positions (without modification), seems a little less useful for various machines.

While you're at Grizzly.com you might want to take a look at their jointer offerings. A friend of mine has an 8 inch Grizzly that has been a good performer.

Once Shane posted about the upcoming sale, I started to do some research.

I decided I wanted a helical cutter.  And I only have room for a 6" jointer.

The 6" grizzly has straight knives.  When I add in a $300 helical cutter, and shipping, I come very close to the Jet 6" helical jointer, which will not have a shipping charge from Tool Nut.

Now if I had more room (and $$) I'd be looking for an 8" jointer, with helical head, and parallelogram adjustments.

I have a 6" Delta jointer I'm looking to sell for $600.00.  It is I'm perfect condition and it includes the mobile base.

Just a quick note.... Pay good attention when moving a jointer around on a mobile base. All of the weight is up high. I was rolling mine back into the shop one day in a rush and not sure if a wheel caught something or what but over she went. Thankfully it hit the leg on my big fabrication table and that stopped it from coming down on my leg.  I pay really close attention now when moving it!

I have the Powermatic 8" jointer with helical head cutters and it is a fantastic improvement over my old straight knife 6" jointer. The new unit will cut birds eye maple with no tear out. It is on a mobile base as are all my power tools. I will not live long enough to have to replace cutters.

I think the key on mobile bases is the ability to lock the wheels and that the wheels not be so small as to hang up on floor chicks or small trash items.

I have had my jet 8 inch jointer w helical heads a bout a year. Took advantage of a 15% off sale. Free shipping. No sales tax. Great deal.  Great machine.  Bought a jet mobile base at the same time. Its very stable. I have smooth concrete floors. Love it.

Thanks all, especially [member=3192]rvieceli[/member].

I made the trip to get the Powermatic 6" helical jointer.  Ended up being about 1/2 price of a new one, and this one had barely been used.  Included the powermatic mobile base as well.
