Modern Dresser Plans

I could not find 18” Blum slides so reverted to Accuride. I’ve used them before with success.

I ordered a jar of Odies and will experiment with it. If I don’t like it, I’ll go back to the MinWax. It’s easy and reliable.
you dont need no stinkin slides [big grin] plus this will add a rigidity, but i'm sure it will be fine

That’s cool guybo, old school joinery and “slides”. It’s like looking into my 90 year old dresser. Should hold up beyond ourselves  [smile]
Ive heard, but never really tried - having some potato flour acting as friction reducing material on the bottom of the drawers, as well as on top of the slides, sort of a kind of dry-lube - it will also keep moisture away from the contact points too.

I usually make drawers with 1/2” Baltic birch plywood with 1/4” bottoms. Since these drawers are almost 30” wide, I’m thinking 3/4” sides and 1/2” bottoms. Drawers will be 18 deep with 10” by 30” faces. Make sense?

Here is a design idea I have been toying with.
I am no pro, but I can handle a glue-up and a nice mitered waterfall joint from solid hardwood.
No plans, but if you think about it, its dead simple - just a mitered box, 3 drawers, a big top.  Easy to assemble.
Likely I would put a mirror on it too, but it doesn't look right yet, so I hid it.

All Modern has a really nice array of dressers.  You could take any of the plans you find and adapt them to produce these designs.

I like this one.  What you cannot tell from this photo, is that it has just 5 legs (not 6).  It does bother me that the edges of the drawers do not line up.  I would be very unhappy with the furniture if it arrived like that.  And I would probably want nice linear draw pulls for the drawers.

My SO would hate me for such a cabinet. Lots of wasted space for beaty's sake and then a lot of places where dust will settle and could not be easily put away.

If we had a housemaid, she would love it though. Lots of paid work! ;)

I bought the 4/4 quarter sawn white oak today. I mentioned I needed two sheets of 3/4" Baltic birch plywood The owner just shook his head. Not available due to Russian war. Had not thought of that.

I had the same issue.  I found some prefinished (both sides) 3/4" maple ply ordered from HD but fulfilled by Columbia Forest.  I bought 2 pieces, 2'x8' and they ripped both to 7.5" widths.  Still expensive but at least I won't have the stink of poly on those drawers.

Not only the bad lines, the fact that the grain doesn't flow across the drawers would drive me crazy.

Yeah, the whole setup is just ... disturbing. Good for a place you do not want people to hang out in.

Yes, but there are actually people in the world who would not notice it at all on their own, and wouldn't care about it if you pointed it out to them. How, I just don't know?
I see places all the time where 5 minutes with a screwdriver could fix the doors too. How people live with doors that don't line up is beyond me.

The quartersawn white oak has been delivered. The 1/4” 4’ by 8’ sheets (2] for the drawer bottoms and case back were delivered. The Opie’s oil is here and I’ll go pick up the 3/4” Baltic birch for the drawer sides Saturday. Can’t seem to find the Accuride 3292 slides anywhere.

The young couple comes Sunday to select the wood to be matched for the top and the drawer fronts. I want the drawer fronts to flow nicely and not look jumbled.

I’ve just come out of a funk in which I doubted my ability to construct the dresser. Now I can see it in my mind piece by piece.
